Winds are really starting to pick up here. Probably won't be long until I'm out of this tree.

 

it's looking like a later rut prediction might be accurate?

 

We're seeing the big boys on their feet the last few days finally. Would have like to have been able to pull that 8 off that doe this morning. Front moving through now (high winds, not sure I'm going back out), but tomorrow and Monday temps are going to drop a lot. I expect Monday to be stellar.

 

Based on my cameras and with texting with the neighbors I think it's pre rut right now at best.

Makes two of us

 

Considering I have had 2 smaller bucks walk by the last 2 days, and not really respond to a grunt, I'd say it may not even be pre-rut in my neck of the woods

 

Just had a small 5/6 point bed down 50 yards from me. Only lasted a few minutes then the winds swirled. Was still nice to see a deer though, just going stick it out here and see what happens.

 

Back in the stand for me hoping to make it happen tonight

 

Well no deer this morning, saw some cows and Turkeys and that was it.

Went in to the truck for a quick lunch now we are back in the stand on a field edge with a decoy again.

I don't know what it was. We've got woodpeckers everywhere this sounded like it was actually chopping through the wood like the dull sound of a hatchet biting into the wood. I don't know What it was.

We stalked a bit.didnt see anything, then told the boys lets go walk down by the lake and see what we can do. We definitely found where they bed down mid-day. They lay down in some really thick brush. We kicked one up, and he took off, couldn't see him, walked another 30 yds and kicked another. He sounded like a freight train running through the brush. Then we hear a big SPLASH!!! He jumped right into the edge of the lake to get away. We didn't see either one because the brush is so thick. But I think we all pee'd a little. It was awesome! The boys are jacked up and ready to go back in the morning. Life's pretty good right now.
