Good lord, you better get some snake boots for hunting that property. Beautiful snakes, but I still hate them

If you like rubber boots check out the muck wetland pros. I picked up a set a few years back and they are solid.

I would die in rubber boots early season.

I probably wouldn’t die, but I imagine it would hurt like crazy and ruin the entire season.

There was a famous story about a young Marine on Quantico. Guy was jogging one day and got bit by a venomous snake. So he kills the thing then backs up a bit and walks around in pain. Goes back to collect the snake to bring to the emergency clinic so they can provide the correct antivenom. As he does a fox comes out and tries to take the snake and in the process bites the Marine. Ticked off Marine snaps kills the fox and then responds to the emergency clinic. Doctors start asking him what is wrong and as he explaining the situation he pulls out two plastic bags. One with a dead snake and one with a dead fox. So he gets antivenom and then rabies shots. Hahaha

These might be some good mornings to take some downfield shots at a good buck or two. In and out.

Back in. Last sit of this very slow NJ 4 day stint. What a difference between two weekends ago. Completely different movement but I guess that's why it's called hunting. Time to get serious for 3hrs and see what happens. Good luck whoever is out.

Snakes are very cool, and they do have their place. We have some big timber rattlers here in Pa, not where I hunt though, mostly in the mountains.

Had some close encounters this weekend. Had the chance to shoot a cow and a spike in different encounters. I held off, really was looking for a good bull this year.
That wraps up archery elk season. Packed up and brought everything home today.
Bring on whitetail season, opens Oct. 10th.
    Some parting pics.

I’m up for the afternoon sit. No-one is seeing anything here, but I’m here so I’ll hunt.

I moved to a different spot deeper in the woods so we’ll see what happens.

I paid very close attention to where I was walking this time.

Why do you think the deer movement is so slow this weekend? Seems to be the same everywhere .

    I have no idea really.

I do know that my lunar forecast said that yesterday and today would be bad days.

Tuesday and Wednesday should be better days with the new moon but unless the temps cool down the deer here are going to stay nocturnal.

My lunar says the same, but I won't be here later this week. Hopefully I'll get out in VT Saturday and Sunday some. I don't have nearly as big a Bucks in VT but if a decent 8pt comes by I'll take him. Every 8pt as wide as his ears really is a trophy in VT. They are so hard to hunt with a bow there.

Also been in the 60's here, very cool for this time of year in NJ, so moon phase or not I'm just baffled at the lack of movement.

I have cell service in this spot! Been setup for 3 hours now. No movement yet. I did find a snake skin 30 feet up a tree. Kinda wild. New spot for me. Hopefully something moves through. 20240929_160829.jpeg 20240929_160837.jpeg 20240929_152807.jpeg
