This scene from Tommy Boy comes to mind.... I finished school last year and have worked hard to establish myself and build clientele. I am my own boss, so yeah, I think it's time........
I thought you had graduated, so do we call you Dr. Swamp Stalker now? Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
This hot ass weather has me so far behind all I have time to do is sit in the ac until 630pm then go to my deck and drink. Damn you global warming my liver can’t take much more. It will be the best hunting season ever, I just put in a 150 hrs of vacation for from Halloween on. BHOD!
Well today I finally went down hill on the property. What several months can do. The rye is ready to come down and is head high. Problem, filled with a leggy yellow flowered weed and a tangle of vetch. Unmowable and I'm wondering about the bush hog. The big wood blind is still on its side and I need to right it without destroying it. Rivers blind is a hazardous waste zone with 3 walls chewed out and a corner of the roofs over hang. Raccoon.. I did get that laneway mowed and fence opened so they get use to crossing there. ,lots of berry brush to attract them. Also Red oak are dropping acorns from this year. I also mowed a small opening in the oak flats where there is also a producing wild apple. I may just drag down paths through the rye and call it a day. There are paths and beds in it.
Gee guys I'm a tad discouraged. I love when the field next door is cornless. I can see the deer feeding in it when clover is in. Well this season he has alfalfa for the first time ever. It's tall and thick, though weedy. Not seeing more than 2 deer in it ever. Now at night I've scanned with a light to catch eyes glowing.....nothing Past years there would be dozens, a huge herd in a poor horse hay field. Camp may be my only hope.
Yes they should be but I've been saying for years now the deer are gone. Which is crazy when one thinks about it. There are way fewer hunters and we are in a CRAZY HEAVY hunting area. We all got older and the camps are gone the big family groups are gone. We should have way more deer. DEC, near unlimited doe tags for years, coyotes, but they introduced those damn Fishers. I stopped seeing fawn, then the doe, now the buck Today I harrow dragged the upper rye plots around the garden. Decided to drop ALL of it with teeth down. Lots of seed to dirt. Did it on a cool wet overcast day to avoid a possible fire. Having lunch and will head down hill. That will be a select drag to keep cover in place
Well I went down to the rye in tree plot. I dragged an opening around the producing apple and peaches. Infront of blind I need to fix. I then dragged a perimeter trail keeping brush between the road and trailand a distance in from property line. I then cleared down a small opening near the open blind and one infront of ladder stand. From those I layed down trails connecting them and around the chestnut trees. The rye down there is way shorter but still chest high and thick a lot of cover with good bedding spots The rye is dry and the harrow dragging popped heads off stalks and seed is getting ground contact Should get some growth and clovers are fair in it. The vetch had a lot of seed produced this year and that got spread with dragging If we get an early cold snap that will be great bedding with all the ground thermal I layed down , it's pretty thick and trails are only Gator wide
If I was good at photoshop I would’ve tried to pass pics off as a game cam pics I got. Went to my wife’s grandma’s celebration of life this weekend. It was outside of a small rural town on a little ranch they used to live on. There is a bison ranch next door and the pasture comes right to the yard fence line. Now that would fill the freezer!
I know they have a few states you can hunt them...better have a really dialed in bow setup or firearm. Also may need 2 freezers.
Well I cant figure it out. This field next door got cut this morning and chopped just now. Thank Heaven they did it before the bad weeds seed matured. It produces zillion seed per plant and was crowding out alfalfa. Good for him it's one that is high in protien and even people can and do eat it. So now it is covering the field chopped no windowing. Will they dry and till in for a winter grain or come back windrow and silage it. I'll bet he is still surprised at the amount of weed seedbank in that field. What he does next may change my plans, though Zero deer seen in that field for the last week
I’ve got all my stuff ready to go. Just gonna recheck my stands a few weeks before season. Looks like I’m gonna have 3-4 decent bucks for this season too. Hoyt Helix Hoyt RX1 Hoyt Carbon Spyder ZT
