Think its time to get back to hunting for me. Enough of looking for this buck, been over a week of looking and no new answers. So time to move on for the time being and hunt again. The plus side of this whole situation is i put in a little over 30 miles of scouting in the past week. Found lots of new buck sign and some new spots to hunt this year. Will be in a stand this afternoon. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
You sure put every effort into finding that buck man! Hope to see you grip and grin and big buck tonight!!!
Season opened on the 14th and I haven’t been in a tree yet. Have to remind myself that it’s a long season and sometimes life just gets in the way. Been sick with a chest cold for over a week now on top of all the life things. 3 of my cell cameras died about a week ago. Need to get out and replace batteries and move them to pre-rut/rut spots. Need to set up mock scrapes. Who knows what else. High note this guy showed up out of the blue. 2 nights in a row makes me think the south end of the back 40 is near his fall range. Otherwise just a ton of 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 running around. Hope everyone is doing well. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Tried it all. 100 to 150 yards. Same level as him, above him, below him. Tried staying with cow calls, sounding like multiple cows, hyper-hot, calf calls, etc. Tried throwing challenge bugles in his face. Raking, popping and cracking limbs, glunking. My hunting partner hunted him 4 days in a row, two of them with me and two with a different buddy. We have not tried two things that I think are the only ways to possibly get him. Either slip in mid day when his cows are bedded and try to call from 100 yards away from him, first cow calls and then maybe try a challenge. Or, just slip in there quiet and wait for him to give his position away and try to get into a position where they'll feed by.
Im finally up. This was my worst setup this year. Approach was great, found some big track, followed into swamp. The tree is a nightmare. Feel like i made all kinds of noise. Also forgot my sweatshirt. Going to be alittle cool this evening. Just have to tough it out. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
Those are type of things that happen and then you end up getting an opportunity. Go get 'em Holt! Sent from my SM-N975U1 using Tapatalk
Had a better area picked out for todays wind but my gut keep telling me to go to this spot. Wind is not great. But when thermals kick in, should be good for the evening. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
Good luck, Holt and any other non-slackers in the woods. I'm continuing to be a slacker till next week.
Just some talk while i wait to shoot a buck. I was getting a slight buck smell up wind when i first setup. Im not now, the wind switched slightly. Also it pays to talk to other public land hunters. I texted a guy that i ran into a cell cam up the marsh, on the way in. He said he thinks he knows who it is. Supposedly that guy is getting a huge buck on camera in this exact area. Crazy how chatty most hunters are. Word spreads so fast. My excitement has gone up for this hunt. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
I no longer say anything about what I saw ... learned to keep quiet/mouth shut, "nope, didnt see squat" or "nuthin' but a small doe" ....... .. ..............
I’m up, same set up as Sunday evening. Wish there was a little more wind though, at least the direction is good. Good luck everyone
Doe and 2 fawns just passed by at 10 yards. Came in from behind me on the trail I took in, wasn't expecting that. So close to shooting that doe, but i restrained myself, haha! Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
Told myself, only way is if its a perfect shot. They keep moving the whole time. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
I probably would have shot her if given the chance. My freezer is empty of deer meat. But I do understand why you didn’t.
