The snow is only going to last a few more days, max. Temps rising fast today. Heading in to scout to maximize this opportunity to snow track. Lets go killers! Get in the woods.
Man I've walked a decent amount this off season. Beaten down trails in the snow. 0 sheds. Found a large bed in the middle of a square pretty much flat property. Big bed. Hard to see from pic probably. Picked a tree for a Lone Wolf stand I'm going to buy. Lol.
hopefully I'll get out this Fri. ... no rain and going to 61 deg's !! ... lost one days work yesterday as my shifter ( on steering column) f'd up, sooo, a flatbed($75) and repairs ($385), I'm back on the road and work today... luckily it happened close to home/towing/repair shop.. if I was out in no-mans land shed hunting, I'd been screwed .. starting my quest for a newer 4x4 (truck or suv? not sure yet) as this is the last winter for what I have now ... ..... btw, the snow is almost gone, but a lot of flooding... steelhead rivers are now muddy and high (still gonna be a while) ..
Took 22 out just a bit ago. Iron sights rim fire. Around 70 yrds out on approach to coop I thought I saw a tan lump with ears under a honeysuckle bush. . Checked back drop and took aim. I haven't shot this since a destructive bird kill this past spring. Shot , zero reaction ..hhhmm aimed again and nothing???? Then it simply hopped away...lol My take away 1. Dang good I'd even caught sight of it at 70yrds under a bush 2. Set up a target before going out with it again. I'm normally a serious threat with that 22. Old eyes I suppose
Walked in 2 miles to get a cam I had out for 4 months. Just an Intel cam. Surveyors tape near it. Cam stolen. I hate thieves.
Damn, that sucks! I can imagine how you were looking forward to 4 months worth of pics. I feel bad for you, because you really put the effort in. Thieves and liars, can't stand them!
Didn't see much else from the sign I've seen in the past. I am narrowing down some spots in that place. One of the islands is 2.5 miles long with a lot of monotonous terrain. One thing I've gotten better at is understanding when the rock wall is able to be walked based on the Missouri river levels. Other than that it was like a 5 mile walk all in all. Ha.
man, I have to get out .... I'm climbing the walls.... was planning today, however (i hate however's) .. I messed my lower back up about 10 days back during the cold snap/snow when shoveling, Ive had a bad lower back since '96 ... no problems during the season carrying 40#'s (stand/gear) in and out every hunt and now it f's up some and cant walk rough terrain nor go over logs, etc .. .... but one good thing, I have a FNG starting Monday, so I'll be back to normal days off after he's trained in, sooo, my back should be good to go by then ( I hope) .. and to add insult to injury, we have 35-50mph winds hitting right now, not interested walking among woods/dead tree's/limbs falling, trees up rooting ... good luck to any who get out this weekend ..
