Arkansas is six weeks and starts the second Saturday of November. Then there is the bonus 3 day after Christmas gun hunt. I wish it was that short, or at least started later. Fortunately, most state owned WMAs are permit draws and 5 days or less.
I hunt with MUCK insulated rubber boots, which are good when it's not too cold. But, when it's real cold they just don't keep my feet warm. Generally, rubber gets cold quickly and retains the cold. The only boot I ever used that really kept my feet warm in the very cold weather were Northern Outfitters Expedition boots, which unfortunately are no longer made. I learned about them from Jim Shockey, who knows how to stay warm in the extreme cold. They were pretty expensive, but they did an awesome job keeping my feet warm. I'd kill to have another pair of them, since the one's I had wore out over the years of use.
It was snow flurry, partial dusting. Wish we had full coverage. Bumped a big buck getting the doe, had a huge bed. Didn’t seem too freaked out.
Headed out at 2:30. The cam and the plot show sign everywhere. The cam shows several big doe, fawns several young buck and a big wide 8pt with short tines. They are piling in around 4p.m. - 6p.m. and then 10pm to 4a.m. It has warmed well today into mid 30's, comfortable. If I score tonight my season is done I'll be happy with 3 nice deer and the fall turkey. I have my comfort food for dinner in the crockpot. French onion soup made with our onions, wild leeks, and the strained stock from the crock pot neck roast. It had a lot of added goodness ending in a rich beefy consume' taste. That neck gave my 9.789 #'s of cooked down meat. Just starting to snow now so that should get them up and eating. Good luck guys
