Heading out now, first day of gun in Pa. Got my bow, had deer running into this property all morning. Good luck out there everyone!
Me too. Taking a break in the barn, figure out what I’m gonna do for the afternoon. We’re supposed to get some rain and snow, only for about an hour, allegedly. If that’s the case, I’ll run out for the last couple hours.
Was 19 degrees this morning. 15 - 32 mph wind gust. I made it to 1100. One loan spike/3 pt. Not legal. Back at the house. Nice and toasty. Snowing and blowing. Brrrrrr.
Today is a bittersweet day, as I unpacked my hunting equipment from my truck, where it stays all throughout the season. I didn't get the buck I was after, but I was lucky enough to at least get a very brief view of him while he tended a doe well out of range. That was half a win, considering I'm the only one of the three other hunters who knew he was in the area, who actually saw him. These three other guys also got him on their cams. I hope he makes it through next weeks shotgun hunt! It was a great season regardless, because I did pass on a legal buck at 15 FEET, and had several other smaller bucks and does mere feet from my natural ground blind. Also, saw my first owl, had a hawk land on the top branch of my blind at 3-4 feet, had a raccoon walk just feet away from me, and watched two different does bed down at about 50yrds. I also watched a doe drink from the little creek that runs through the area, which was a first. All in all, I had an enjoyable season watching nature go about it's business without knowledge of my presence. I'll give it hell again next season, God willing. Good luck to those still hunting, and most importantly, be safe!
I m sitting on a south facing oak ridge that overlooks bedding. Hoping against hope that something comes by here. We've got temps in the teens and wind in the 20s. I've been here about 90 min and so far Sitka, First Lite, and "old" Cabelas are doing a great job. Sent from my SM-N975U1 using Tapatalk
Out for the last few hours on the same food plot as yesterday. Made an adjustment to a ground set up, hopefully deer do the same thing the did last night. We have the same wind and identical conditions as yesterday. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Last 40 minutes of regular archery season. Still have 2 weeks of expanded left. Haven’t hunted this much or this hard in many years, and have nothing to show for it. But it has reminded me how much I love this. If I don’t get a Kansas tag next year, watch out Missouri or Ohio, because I am going somewhere.
All settled in on the greenfield. Brought the SIL with me to sit this blind. There were 2 in the field when we got here. Buck only night for the SIL. Hope it's a big one. I'm a spectator. Gave him my 308 to use also. We're suppose to get snow right at dark. They should be here feeding soon. Our view for the rest of the evening.
Just realized I have this buck on cam. This is the buck I was trying to turn around on when I fell on the 12th. Probably good I didn't shoot him as he looks young. Good looking young buck...body size is probably 60 to 70lbslbs less than the first buck that came in chest on that day.
Little over an hour left. Yesterday, deer didn’t show up until about 20 minutes left. Time for the wind to start dying down. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Went down to camp and closed her up. Thankfully pipes were not frozen ,but well house was filled with water. Hubby is working down there 15 mins away so he's going back with a pump. I was frozen by tne tome we left cold and crazy wind. Tons of tracks everywhere but no sightings.
Ended up seeing 9. The only buck in the group looked like a 80 inch 8 point. SIL wants a good one and passed him. I'll have plenty of opportunities on that greenfield when ML season starts to still get a young doe.
