Headed over to the river place to put ground blind in around lunchtime. Need a alternate spot to sit the greenfield for the winds forecast this weekend.

Just had confirmation that my target buck is still alive after rifle season. I rattled him in to 40yds. He stood there over 10 min just looking and then turned and walked bk out of my life. Bittersweet.

Wind chill is up to 21 now. Feels quite a bit better.

Does were blowing at the quad few minutes ago. They’re definitely moving this morning. I’m just in the wrong spot.

That's the outcome I'm hoping for after the two shotgun hunts (Dec 5th & Dec 12) that they run every year where I hunt. It's bowhunting only, except for these two hunts each year.
I take my cams out for this hunt, because there's all kinds of one time a year hunters that I don't necessarily trust. I'll put them back in afterwards to see if my target buck made it through. He's no doubt at least 3 1/2 years old, so he's survived no less than 6 of these hunts over that time. He knows exactly what it takes to remain safe, not to mention he's pretty much nocturnal.
There are several "safety zones" around the few old (1800's) dwellings in the area, which I believe he retreats to during these hunts.

I have 270 hours at my blind this season, I've seen him exactly one time. That was on Halloween at 4:10pm, while he tended a doe. He was too far out though.

Been quite the last couple hours after that little buck. Hopefully, this moon overhead phase gets something moving soon. Big 8 went by the cell cam at 4 am, going to mcve that way for the afternoon if nothing happens here this morning.

Sara and I are in and set up on the ground. Deer calendar says the moon is overhead now and major movement time 1030-1230. So we will stay for that then be back in 330 to end of day for the minor time. Good luck everyone!

I'm back at the house. I had to pull the plug a little earlier than I would have liked to because our daughter is here and she is leaving this morning.

My youngest daughter and her husband are getting here mid-morning tomorrow so I may or may not hunt this afternoon and tomorrow morning. If I don't I'll plan on hitting it hard again Sunday after they leave.

I ordered a new heated vest and it should be here Wednesday. Until then I have adhesive body warmers that I will just stick to the inside of the vest. I did take two with me this morning just in case and about first light I was really glad I did.

When I used to hunt in real cold weather, I sewed two pockets on the back of a shirt where my kidneys are located. I'd put hand warmers in these pockets and they made a HUGE difference in keeping warm! It's an idea I had read about, not my own.

3 hunters, a bunch of squirrels, 0 deer.

But, my Ibuprofen and heated vest worked fine this morning.
