Well the old good news/bad news. I just jumped him. He busted out a thicket at 10 yards. No blood in bed, just hair. The arrow was still in him and in farther then i thought. My white vanes were stained brown and red. He was full run, so no reason to push him off property. So backing out for the day and back at it tomorrow morning. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
I feel terrible guys. Never want this to happen or to anyone else. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
It’s not ideal but there’s a lot of moving parts in what we do, it happens. You’ll see it to the end and close the chapter.
So many factors come in to play when trying to kill a wild animal with supreme reactionary skills. You got this man.
Sorry to hear that but most of us have been there at some point. At least you found him and know where you last seen him running for tomorrow.
4pt and one doe sk irting our woods and the farmers corn. A nice flock of 8 turkey. Then I kicked up a couple of deer at 11am behind the house. Temps drop a bit tomorrow but Scout has to have the vet check his bladder at 11:30
Good luck. All that jumping and running will move that broad head around and hopefully cut something vital so he dies quick.
I’m sure looking forward to it. The rain trashed the first two days and now we’re back up with temps pushing 90 and making it absolutely miserable. My wife is leaving this afternoon for an 8 day hiking trip so I’ll be all on my own. If I get lucky enough to take a shot Elly May will probably be called in to service.
not that it's going to help at this point, but can you show us where the line of the shot was? Based on your description I am having a hard time figuring out how you didn't get a mess of liver which almost assuredly would've killed him by now, but all I got to go on is my mental image.
I’m set up for the afternoon on the other side of the road. I don’t really expect to see anything this afternoon but I wanted my gear here for tomorrow morning. You never know though.
I think Holt mentioned hitting his deer in the crease in front of the back leg, probably eliminating the liver. I'm thinking/hoping that deer just might survive.
Aborted my first spot Paddled and found some tracks near a little cut of water leading up into into the fields. Some decent sized tracks. Mosquitoes from hell.
Doubtful that it survives with the arrow fully buried in it. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Most folks swear by Thermacell, but I don’t like them. This is the only part of me that isn’t covered by permethrin treated clothing and for this area I have a tiny bottle of unscented off. Mosquitoes still fly around but they can’t land on me.
