Heading back out to look for that buck… my hopes are not high, but you never know Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Well just had a good buck come in but no shot maybe another will come along man that sucks Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Wind picking up here. It’s so much more relaxing sitting on the ground than in a tree. Though I do like the tree also.
I missed a doe at 22 yards this morning. First deer in range for the season and I completely missed, shot over her back. What a complete let down feeling. My wife says I can't say any more negative things about myself, so i think I'll just chalk it up as experience and move on lol
I have missed a doe and what would have been my biggest buck with a bow, about a 120-130" 8 point. Check your equipment, I was hitting 10" low at 25 yards.
An absolutely insane ending to the morning sit. I've been watching the radar and the rain was getting closer so I decided to get down about 1230. I climb down and walk about 20ft and hear a bunch of branches breaking. I turn around just in time to see three bucks chasing a doe. They stop very briefly about 30yds from my stand and then take off-they stopped so briefly I really don't think I would've been able to get off a shot. They run the same direction I'm going to be walking out so I'm really watching close as I go out. I get about half way out and I see a buck crossing my path. I try to see clearly but there's to many trees. He sees me and runs away. I walk about another 100yds and in front of me there are 2 bucks on the trail that I'm walking out on. They are tooo far ahead of me to get a shot at them. They see me and bound away. I walk another 100yds or so and I'm looking to see if I might be able to see where they went. I look behind me and there's a another smaller buck standing there watching me. I put the scope on him but he's too small to shoot. We had a stare down for almost 10 minutes and then he left. Talk about a crazy morning. I'm out now and it's pouring! Sent from my SM-N975U1 using Tapatalk
In my evening spot. My uncle and cousin are about 500 yds to my left. There is a pretty big ground scrape to my right maybe a day old. I have a doe tag for this area also. If one presents itself I will try to take it. 55 and breezy. Not enough service to send a pic.
if anything for both my vac's, I'd say "bland" and disappointed would suffice (for various reasons) ... had fun, had young deer/bucks close several times did see two "shooters finally, but "rut action" was not to be seen, not for me this season so far ... last season was great for movement/chasing and such .... my time is now very limited and lucky if I can get out once a week from here on ... good luck
I've not posted this on here because I wanted to wait until our bowhunting trip to Mark Twain National Forest was over. Well, it's over, and all I can say is "Thank God". I saw quite a few deer the first week, but the second two weeks the movement was almost zero. Three weeks and two days there and I managed two antlerless deer and my son never got a shot. We would have left earlier but my brother and nephew were coming for the family gun hunt that started Saturday and I felt that I had to be there. Anyway, if you remember, about a month ago I wrecked my e-bike coming up the rocky hill on my new hunting place and thought I'd broken my foot. My foot is okay, but what I didn't realize at the time was that when I slammed down on my right shoulder (my bad shoulder) I did damage it. It's gotten progressively worse since the accident and the last time I tried to draw my bow I couldn't do it. Just taking my buck knife out of the sheath on my right side hurts terribly. Putting a climber on my back almost makes me tear up. My son Greg and I will be gun hunting through Friday on the new 560 acre place. We hung stands today and the rubs and scrapes would blow anyone away. Greg had to help me put my climber on my back when we headed out. I'm going to tough it out for four more days and I'm pretty sure that will be the end of my season. I considered getting a crossbow and continuing hunting, but there is so much more movement that involves the shoulder than just drawing the bow, so as soon as my son leaves for his home in Texas I'll be making an appointment to get this problem addressed. It sucks because so far I've had one of the worst seasons I've had in a long time, but I just can't bow hunt, and it hurts like crazy to hunt period. Something tells me that Greg and I will put two deer down each in short order on this new place and thank goodness he will be here to help me take care of them.
