Just got home from beer camp it was pretty mellow. $620 in the big buck contest. Still unsure where I’m hunting in the morning. Opening day with the orange army.

OK, I'm a bit toasty tonight. It's a celebration, beeches.

Tonight, with a rifle, from the same stand I was in back on that day, my cousin shot the buck I missed back on Oct 25.

You guys may or may not remember I have sung his accolades as a ridiculous deer assassin over the years on this forum, but the dude is just a machine. Tonight is the first time he sat that stand this year. He did the exact same thing last year from the same stand and dropped a really nice MI public land eight point. Although that one was with a bow. I hunted the same stand last night and didn't see a dang thing. He said he was just scanning the edge of the swamp grass with his binos put his binos down caught movement, pulled the rifle up and there he was. Walked straight towards him before turning broadside at 30 without a care in the world. Some people just have the juju

I shot just over this sucker's shoulder at less than 30 after grunting and snort wheezing him in as he and a group of bucks were chasing an early doe. Am I jelly? A bit. Am I happy for him? Hell yeah!

Oh, BTW, do not use .350 Legend 150gr Winchester Copper Impacts. At less than 50 yards, he hit him in the near shoulder, bullet fragmented inside the body cavity, no exit, literally zero blood. We were lucky we got permission to go after him onto the private, he was dead within 70 yards but there wasn't a drop of blood. We just stood about 20yds apart and walked with mega flashlights, found him folded up behind a log. His heart exploded, no blood trail at all.

Oh, and zero blood at site of recovery. He just did not bleed externally. 70+ yards, heart shot, no blood.

Up and getting ready for the gun opener. Going to take SIL to my river place with me this morning. Hoping he can get a nice one today. He hasn't been able to hunt much this year due to his work schedule.

I'll be out carrying the Ruger 357. Still want a yearling doe for the smoker. Good luck out there and as always stay safe!

Congrats to your cousin. We went to the buffalo bore cast bullets for my sons .357, 180 grain. They are flat nose and perform better that others that we tried.
