Just checked the card from this Buck stand and found these. I'll be holding out for one of these as l9ng as I can. Some of the best Bucks I've seen on the farm in a long time.
She got to 45 yards and cut into the woods behind me. Still a chance though. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
Tomorrow morning is doe opener. Maybe....tuckered myself out today. Took pics of the nea blind. Just need rubber around the door, clean mud off rug, install chair.
Saw a doe and fawn right at dark, but way down the field. Good to see some deer, but was really hoping for a shot tonight. Though it was going to happen on that doe. Also almost hit a nice buck on the way home, ran out of a corn field. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
I had some time to kill the evening before the season opener and I thought that instead of posting this in the rant thread I'd post it here. I live in a small house in the middle of the forest and I've been watching a 4 1/2 - 5 1/2 year old buck feeding through off and on for a few weeks. About three weeks ago we brought my daughter's horse and my wife's horse from my daughter's place to our place. I was worried that putting horses on our place here at this time of year would really screw up deer traffic, but it has actually helped. I've been watching a really good 9 point (7 point last year) that'll push 130" feed across our property for weeks now. Before my wife went outside to feed the horses when this happened she had actually been looking at the deer with me. (I felt I should add that for context.) Again, this story is true, but I thought I'd put it in poem form. (Okay, I'm bored. ) Twas Two Nights Before Season: ‘Twas two nights before season and out my window I’d been watching a buck; a brute, don’t you know. I’d seen him for weeks, off and on, but consistent. His pattern steady but my chance non-existent. The dogs were all cuddled on their little dog beds while dreams of baked deer bones danced in their heads. I watched out the window as this big buck fed. “I need to feed the horses”, my lovely wife said. I thought “No problem” and continued to peer. I must have been crazy or not thinking clear. She went on out side and I thought that the deer couldn’t see her because the barn was so near. I was glassing this buck and his head popped up. and gazed in the direction of our new round bale hut. He turned and he bounced just about straight away with his white tail flag saying “Have a nice day”. I thought “WTF” and it soon became clear that he had somehow spotted my lil’ wifey dear. I set down my bino’s, dashed out the front door and the vision that greeted me almost caused me to roar. There was my wife where the deer had clear view, by the round bale scooping and spreading horse poo. I stammered out “Really? This couldn’t have waited? I got the same answer that I’ve always hated. “I’m sorry I guess I just wasn’t thinking.” I knew what this meant and I just stood there blinking. My beautiful bride, with whom I am stuck had cost me a chance at a five year old buck. PS: I hate horses.
First time I’ve had a chance to update. Bulls are being vocal, just haven’t been able to get one fired up enough to commit. Chuckling back and forth with one right now, not enough light left to go after him. Will see if we can get on him again in the morning.
