I might just use the neighbors deer target, worth a shot. At least I can shoot it when I get pissed off.
I’m out for about an hour, the wife wanted to do some work outside in her garden’s. Let’s just say her quiet and my quiet are two different things.
So, here's the story. I'm on my way there and notice my phone is ringing. It's my grandson and he's freaking out. I can barely understand him and tell him to calm down. He proceeds to tell about the 4 doe and the monster 14 point buck standing in the driveway and I need to hurry up and get there and shoot it. I'm thinking to myself, lol, yeah right. I arrive 2 minutes after the call and I see 4 doe that are now standing in the cut corn and another deer a little further back. They are all within 50 yards of me. Of course, it's also still dark out. I hear this buck grunting like crazy, seems like about every second. So I just decide to go to my stand and hope they work their way over. I'm in the stand by 6:15 and light is breaking. By 6:30, I looked over where they were at and low and behold I see that doe group coming my way. The lead doe was the biggest and she got to within about 30 or so yards to me. The other 3 kind of turned off. I didn't see the buck but all of a sudden I hear grunting like crazy again. I still didn't see him and he finally cleared a row of little trees. He came right to that lead doe. He's now 35 yards from me facing head on and she's broadside to me. They are just standing there, no clue I'm in my stand. She takes a couple steps then he takes a couple and is now at a hard quartering to me. Still not taking that shot. She took a couple more and he followed suit and now he's at a medium quarter to me. 35 yards out. I already was watching him through my scope, so I steadied the crossbow and let it fly. He did the highest mule kick I've ever seen in my life. He practically did a rack stand, lol. He then busted out of there and crossed back over that tree line and I lost sight. I did not see him anymore. I called my grandsons and they came out. This was 40 minutes after the shot. I was pretty sure I nailed him good. We go over and my younger grandson is the first to spot blood and he starts making a bee-line and I had to reign him in. I explained a few things then we started the track. The blood did peter out for about 10 yards or so, but the we hit that higher grass and he just opened up, big time. I knew right the dead buck and he's close. My younger grandson, again looks ahead and runs in front of us and he starts screaming, there he is! 50 yards his fate was sealed. Great morning and got to get my 2 grandsons in on the action. Here he is! By the way, I shot him @6:54 this morning.
Took my good ol time and got setup, I’m in deep for an urban spot haha .54 mile, on the edge of a pine tree thicket on a knob. Had a nice young 8 come to 10 yds while I was setting up. Good luck on recovery’s for those who shot and the rest of ya shoot somthing! I been waiting since last year to get to this spot during the rut. Let’s hope it was worth the wait!!
No chickens today so I guess it’s all day in the stand. Minutes feeling like hours. Ghost town out here. Gotta keep telling myself that it can happen at any second. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I've been back in since 1230 - Action has been good so far. 6 young bucks and a mature doe doing about 100mph
