This is what I have done. Realizing at 67 years old, I have more hunts behind me than I have have ahead of me, makes me appreciate the little things much more. I haven't even taken a shot at a deer so far this season, BUT I have had some really awesome encounters of various types. I've had deer within 15 FEET of my blind on several occasions, including a 5pt that I could have killed, but I'm after only one of two bucks in my area. I've seen a raccoon at 10 feet, a hawk that landed on the top branch of my blind, just 3-4 feet from me. I saw my first owl. I've heard many, but had never seen one.

Also, I experienced some rutting activity, which makes my season. Bucks cruising. Two bucks tending two different doe, one buck making a scrape 20yrds from me, and a buck grunting and trying to mount a doe, which I've never witnessed before. And, a LOT of really great trail cam videos! Yep, it's the little things I've learned to be the most important part of my hunting. You never know how many more seasons you have ahead of you.

It happens to the best of us. I got so excited a few years back i thought i killed the “big 9”. Ended up being a 3.5 y.o. 125” With great potential that us and all the neighbors were on the same page to let him walk. And the worst part was i was the one to initiate the conversation with the neighbors and bring it up. That was an embarrassing text i had to send to everyone.

Absolutely silent here, haven’t had anything move through. Cameras show mid morning action in this spot so I shouldn’t be surprised but dang I want to see some deer today

Damn I’m feeling left out. Few does and fawns. Little to 0 rut activity.

Not even 9am and my mind is already thinking about getting out of this stand to enjoy beers and BS with family and friends for “deer camp” / firearm opener.

Just had a doe go by, first deer I've seen this morning, she was looking nervous and in a hurry. I fully expected to see a buck following but nothing so far. It is slow for November 8th

Nothing at impact but I saw the first 80 yards of his run. Shot was a little high and arrow is still in him. Headed home for supplies. Might be this guy...
