acorns must've started dropping in central 'Sconnie the past couple days, overnight I had a ton of grazing/browsing activity in an oak grove that had otherwise been only used as a travel corridor. Also had the bucks getting testy, several small scraps and one that went off and on for nearly a hour. This was pretty cool, after the fight broke up the bigger buck thrashed a jack pine:
Dammit! My number 2 got his brows knocked off... they were barely countable anyway, but now they're just nubs
Will be heading to elk camp this afternoon for weekend warrior activities again. The weather has cooled down drastically from last weekend. Last weekend it was highs in the 90's and lows in the lower 60's, this weekend the highs will be mid 60's and lows are high 40's. Also got a couple days of nice rain. Bulls should be getting vocal and my spirits are high. Will be semi-live as I have service, hopefully have some fun encounters to report. Best of luck everyone!
I will be out within the next couple hours. Going to check a couple parking lots and see if any others are out. Then plan from there. Going to look for acorns and scout my way in, going slow and ready to hunt. Keep looking for that big buck! Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
That's one thing I'm finding hard to find near these water properties. No traditional white or red acorns..I have found some swamp oaks and bur oaks.
I have some spots in Ohio where they basically browse 24/7, makes it hard to predict movement off food. There’s no acorns or other mast around, this is river bank public. If you find those oaks I’m sure the deer are close. I don’t know about but oaks or swamp oaks tho.
From what I've seen they love bur oaks. I've found some on two properties I hunt. Keeping tabs on them...and some pin oaks
Opening day tomorrow for us here in Missouri. Good luck if you headed out. Don't forget to wear your safety gear!
Sunday doe only starts 85/59...tough temps. I really need the meat so I'm thinking shot gun this year over any archery. Regular bow starts Oct 1. I'll have a doe and buck tag to use at camp this year. Our guy that mows told me camps the place to be .apples everywhere and big HERDS of doe all over as well. Being able to use the crossbow all season gives me way more options. I can tuck in to the crazy thick buckthorn and sit. I actually need to crawl in places down there when tracking kills. It's where the big boys hang out. Hubby is working a job just 15 mins away so during the week if I needed help he's close by.
ehhhhh? You super sure about that? Don't be going out and shooting a deer a day before opener tomorrow. pretty sure Missouri opens Sunday the 15th
