I cut it in thin strips ~1/4" wide season with a dry mexi-seasoning blend (cumin, chili, garlic, dry lime, onion powder, etc) and pan fry. Make for great tacos or burrito filling.

    Great job!

Sorry it was the wrong buck. My best friend shot the wrong mule deer buck...guided hunt...2 years in a row! Expensive lesson for him.

I've seen those before, still alive. Can't remember where they were in the anatomy but definitely have seen them.

First day of vacation and I did not make it out.

My left shoulder is getting bad, bad enough I have reverted back to a crossbow last minute. It got here yesterday but by the time I got it home and assembled it was too dark to shoot it.

Luckily I did not trust the advertisement of factory sighted at 20yds. 1st shot is red circle, 3" low and right equally. Manual says bore sighted to put it in a 7" circle at 20yds.

Good to go now, but nothing over 30.

Mowed the yard for what better be the last time this year and changed the oil in my truck. Washed some gear, got the cart in the back of the truck and will get out probably mid morning tomorrow until dark.

    The grind begins.

At last light I had a tall brow narrow racked 2 year old I believe. Decided to pass him. Only one I saw. Did check the cam and there is a new bigger 8 point in the area. Hoping to get a crack at him in the morning.

    Alright you a-holes.
One arrow sent, one buck recovered. I know, I know...

I hear a deer coming in from behind me, turn around and see a real nice 8pt, prob 120ish coming in to the water tank, I start to draw and the SOB picks me off- we have a several minute Mexican stand off with me at half draw. Finally he puts his head down and starts walking back to my right, which means I now have to dip around my tree and redraw. I dip around my tree no problem and he's quartering away perfect at 25 and I start to draw and he whips his head around and pegs me again. So now I'm basically at 3/4 draw and he's staring dead at me. Then he turns his head forward and starts trotting and I come to full draw but now he's behind some trash and I can't take the shot. He gets to about 40 and stops again and then lowers his head and grunts and I see that there's a doe ahead of him. He chases her behind some pines and they f*** around for a little bit and then the doe pops out headed straight towards me and there's a buck behind her so as soon as he gets clear of the little pines at 25 I let the arrow fly and see it hit him right behind the shoulder, he bounds away into the brush and the doe just stands there and then all of a sudden that first buck that I saw pops out of the pines and chases her around for a little while. Now I'm thinking 'what the F did I just shoot?'
It gets to dark and then I get down out of the tree go find my arrow pick up the blood, and he's dead within 50 yards.

Damned if I didn't shoot a fricking forkie.
