Nothing yet. Not sure I like this set. Feel a little exposed. Going to give it another hour. It’s already 61 degrees and winds are gusting to 32.

Here's a breakdown of my season so far, then I have a question.

I have spent 23days/100 hours in my blind, give or take an hour. Two of those days I spent 10 hours on stand. I've seen exactly 14 deer. Mostly scrub bucks (spikes, 3pt, 4pt, 5pt, does). I have yet to see anything resembling something I'd shoot.
I've yet to see my target bucks, two nice 8pts, other than on my cams at night.

My question is this. Can/will a buck do his rutting thing ONLY at night? This thought has crossed my mind, since I have no less that 6-7 cam videos of these two bucks and they're all at night, as recently as two days ago! I do appreciate any insight you folks could offer.

Hard to say without knowing more. I’m guessing they aren’t close by if you only have night pictures of them. What are you hunting? Food, bedding, travel etc. That’s a lot of pressure for one spot.

I would move around and try to find more predictable travel routes with the rut approaching, funnels, pinches, ditches, creek crossings. If there not where your at move and find them. Just bc your cam gets them in night doesn’t mean they’re not moving during the day. Go find the sign and hunt it.

    Good luck everyone.
Son came over last night and first thing out of his mouth was " whats up with you shooting these strange racked buck here?! He was a big bodied deer with that rack".
I may have scarred him several years ago with my swamp buck. A small racked 6 or 8, really can't remember, with a really big body. He was old and rutted up and the only buck I ever shot nearly inedible. The dogs got most of him. I had to have help getting him out. Son came down and first thing out of his mouth was " what the hell ma,why are you hunting down here?! I looked at him and said your looking at why. He's a strapping 6'3" construction worker. It took us a while to get him out of that swamp going down hill. The last hundred ft to road and over 8ft deep culvert, we had him hooked to the Gator winch. Ppl stopping to offer help getting him into the gator.

Anyways made me think as you sit on stand what strange buck have you shot over the years or just how many?

Almost got him. 130”+ 8pt spooked out of thicket and came 20 yards and couldn’t stop him. 7 deer before sun up and a spike and 4 pt. Seen another long beard and bobcat

Where I'm hunting, it is a funnel/pinch point, which they travel through. I know the exact route these two bucks take, because I'll get them on one cam, then between 3-5 mins later I'll get them on the second cam. They have to take a specific trail to get from the one cam to the other in that short amount of time. I have watched numerous other deer take this exact same route.
Again, is it possible these two mature bucks will only pursue does at night? Has anyone ever experienced this with a mature buck?

No I have not, they take those trails at night. But they have to be using others in the daylight.

Are you moving around and changing blind locations?

I don't know if you ever watch growingdeer.tv

It's more of a teaching page than a hunting page. They are involved with some huge studies on deer. This is a 36-second clip to give you just a little insight.

To answer your question, it’s possible but not likely if there is a doe in heat around. Likely you will see the smaller bucks harassing, which you have first. We are very close to the major rutting activity, your area just might not quite be there yet where they are wandering a lot yet. Around me it isn’t.

I don’t think so. They are conducting business somewhere else during the daylight.

Had a spike walk by about at hour ago. Then just had a bobcat also walk by. Crazy windy here so I'm swinging around in my saddle like a pinata

Climbing down, nothing else besides the two love birds I walked up on walking in.

    Still way better than working.

I went through several years of cam pics yesterday trying to figure out how to get a pic shared. That hot mail hack has seriously screwed up so many things we can't seem to fix.
Well I found that from Oct 17th through Nov6th I have big buck in day light or very close to, hitting scrapes ,rubs, and chasing doe
Oh that's consistently over a 12 yr span
