100% same!! I promise I won’t complain this year! I’ve made my big old steaming pile, now it’s time to lay in it. Lol!! Let’s go!!!!
'I'm gonna take this here inflateable boat, fill it with sharp pointy metal things, drive it through a river filled with hidden sharp pointy things, drag it up on shore covered by sharp pointy things, hopefully take one of my sharp pointy things and shoot an animal with a set of sharp pointy things on top of it's head, toss that animal and all it's pointy things back in my inflatable boat filled with all my sharp metal pointy things, drive it fully loaded way over capacity back up the river filled with sharp pointy things. It's gonna be EPIC!"
Based on that thought process, it sounds like this guy is used to needing a battery to get anything inflated.
Bear Story: I spent the summer between my sophomore and junior years of college working as a camp counselor for a camp in the Sierra Nevada mountains. The camp had a problem with a mother bear and her cubs frequently breaking into the kitchen. Myself and a few of the other counselors volunteered to sleep in the kitchen on the weekends when the kids were not at camp and try to scare the bears off. I woke up one night around 3am to the find the bear standing on her back legs with her front paws on one of the windows, trying to break the glass. I walked over with a megaphone, stood right against the window and hit the alarm button to scare the bears away. If the bear had pushed on the glass any harder instead of running away, it would have been on top of me instantly. A few weeks later, I am doing my laundry in the middle of the night. The washer and dryer were outside of the lodge building at the back. I walked around the corner and came face-to-face with the mother bear and her cubs. So close, I could have easily reached out and slapped her in the face. I made myself as big as I could, yelled and jumped right at her. She and the cubs bolted.
Got a few things done this weekend while having the last family camping trip at the property for the year. I checked all three game cameras, they had a good two month soak. One of the stupid cameras never took a single pic, something wrong with it. The other two cameras had more elk pictures than whitetail, but that is common during the summer at my place. Sure wish the property wasn't in a draw only unit, one of the bulls is a pretty nice 6x6. Checked the straps on the ladder stand, all good. Put in lifelines for climber trees I'll likely use this year. Got bow all sighted in and ready to go. (It was sighted in for 3d arrows) Archery elk opened on the 30th, I usually wait until after Labor Day weekend to start going. That is this coming weekend, excited to be in the elk woods in a couple days! Still have 1/2 the elk from last year in the freezer so this year I'm looking for some nice head gear.
They harvested the alfalfa they cut next door today. Many many 4 & 6 wheel truck loads were filled. The coyote are wild in it tonight and chased a nice 8pt and several doe out of it . Straight into our woods. Got the "ridge beam" in the blind for roof planking found more tarp but ran out of cardboard underlayment. Two inside walls are covered in the landscape fabric. Installed front side window covering.
That's freakin' awesome. I used to get up in a sky track at a buddy's house. We would set up 3d targets and practice shots that we were more likely to get in the season. Then we would practice quartering to & straight down shots - it's a good eye opener on how tough those shots really are and why we should NOT take them.
this is the only decent buck still showing up on cams somewhat regular (and only decent one in daylight.) Needs another year. He stripped the velvet off in the past 3 days.
Can't tell you how many times I have either missed or passed on a shot on a deer w/in 3 yards of the bottom of my tree. Hardest shot in bow hunting...hardest to pass on, hardest to take, and hardest to accurately hit.
Addendum: he's only a 4x5, if he was 5x5 I'd probably do it. I'll probably still do it if it's after Thanksgiving and the freezer is empty.
My first buck with my bow (only a few years ago) was at about 3yds. I felt I got lucky since he went no where but it was extremely stressful. Having a decent buck at 20yds is stressful… anything under 10 is amplified. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It’s here!!! I am officially live from the stand! Got set up here about an hour before first light. Acorns are dropping and I’ve had some good camera action here in the morning lately. Good luck to any of those that are out this morning!!! Let’s start this season off right!!!
