I went and hung a set and trail cam on top the ridge of that draw that i posted the other day. Lots of does pictures so far. Need a NW wind and a temp drop. And I think the chances are high that a buck cruises thru.
Out… Nuttin… Friday will be my next hunt .. all day sit as it’ll be right after a 75° Thursday. I’ll hunt all day Saturday and leave for Kentucky on Sunday. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I’m out, was late morning movement, spike, 4 doe and a buck that really had me tempted. Came to the mock scrape at 25yds. Still trying to hold out.
Man, I would love to hunt in a place that that’s a deer that you pass! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Ugh ya I might just be an idiot lol, I want to see a buck and not question to shoot or not. This one was real close to getting shot today, it was this buck
Well I have to go do this thing called work. Even though I didn't see anything I don't think I was too far off. Over the past 10 days at least a half dozen bucks have shown up. Nothing huge but it does let me know that this place is mainly a doe bedding area. Here is the best one. Nothing huge. First pic I'm like no I wouldn't shoot then I see the second pic and I'm torn. He was right by my stand yesterday morning a few minutes before sun up.
thanks to everyone wishing me good luck, unfortunately we didn't find him...in fact, we found nothing at all. No arrow, no hair, blood, or other fluids. Just followed his path which we had a decent idea of; he took off through the mud like a bat out of hell so that was easy enough to follow in places (it's a swamp that's mostly mud this year due to drought.) Found where it looks he crossed onto private which we do not have permission (we've asked in the past- Hard no.) we then walked all the creeks running through the swamp, didn't find anything. honestly perplexed- I would swear I hit him, he acted hit, I know where he was standing when I shot at him. To not even find hair? I'm using a 1.25" fixed CoC head with bleeders...at the very least there should have been a pile of hair. My cousin's with me and he's the best blood tracker I've ever hunted with and he came up dry. All I could do was check my gear (fine) and get back on the horse. Passed a spike last night from the same stand, thought about taking him just to get back on track but that's no reason to kill something. Especially with a 500 yard drag through a swamp. Also passed on a small buck yesterday AM, and passed a 1.5yo doe this AM from a different stand. taking care of some work here at lunch then back out.
^ oh, and the genny- added StarTron (thanks @Sota ) and ran it a few times till it died again, let it set overnight, added more StartTron and it's been fine since. Added StartTron to the rest of the tanks and not using that gas station anymore.
I should still be at my blind, but I forgot that I had to meet the cable TV guy today. Was in 45 mins before first light, and could hear deer. About 7:30am I had a raccoon walk 15 feet from me. Young one, just stood there and looked at me. It couldn't figure what I was because I was sitting on the ground. At 8:00am I had a big bodied 5pt come out in front of me at 20yrds, and stood there sniffing the air for five minutes, literally. Then he started walking closer to me and passed by to my left at 20', yes 20 feet! I expected him to bust me being as close as he was, but he didn't! Watched him for almost 15 mins. It was an awesome encounter. Being on the ground to watch this stuff is intense! I'm leaving to hunt the rest of the day. Good luck out there guys/gals, and be safe!
I was in the stand one morning and had similar havoc one morning...it was 3 coons. Fwiw- cats (bobcats in my area, +mtn lions and a few others across the country) also make a hellatious noise too.
