My best worst day of deer hunting ever. All hell broke loose today at 5:20. Saw at least 5 bucks 130+ chasing one doe, grunting, multiple fights, was able to grunt/ snort wheeze in a big 3x5, and... clean miss right over his back. I had him ranged at 30, put my 30 right behind his shoulder, and somehow put it an inch over his back. I even ranged my arrow in the dirt; 31. Only good thing about it was he never saw me and returned to the chase. But that's not the worst of it. An hour later, group of does come in and hit the acorns, joined by a forkie...10 minutes later, a nice 2.5yo perfect 8 comes in, grunting, pushes the forkie around till he gives me a clean broadside shot at 35. I took my time, settled in, let out a steady breath, and touched off the shot- right as he lunges forward and my double lung shot becomes a gut punch to both of us. I could see the hole in his side as he ran into the thick stuff all hunched up. I know that look too well and best I can hope for is liver. I waited until dark to climb down, was hard to tell exactly where he was standing at impact so didn't find my arrow tonight, I'm pretty sure I got complete pass through so I'll find it tomorrow AM when I take up the track. Didn't and won't track at all tonight, I'm hoping he bedded nearby, there's a crick less than 75 from where he was when I shot him and he ran directly towards it. Ugggh what a freaking day and long night ahead.
^ Oh, and to top it off, went into town to get gas for the genny and I think the station's Rec90 has water in it because now the genny will run for 20 mins or so, start loping, then cut out. If I wait a couple minutes, it will fire up again, rinse and repeat. Just not my freaking season.
It'll all be fine when you find him in the morning. Good luck. Dream of back straps on the grill tonight.
I'm up. Slept surprisingly hard. My brain just shut off and I was out. Coffee on, suiting up. I'll hunt from the same stand and take up the track around 1030. I have 2 buck tags so another one to fill.
Congratulations Rj and LC! Good luck, Noods! Good luck hunters! Stay safe! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I'm up and settled in. Been a while since I used a climber, but sure don't mind the comfort. Good luck out there today. Time to kill not kill time.
