This guy has only been showing up at night this summer. Hoping when he sheds his velvet he will be a daytime visitor!! Season opens in MD on Friday and I can’t wait!!!
Hi Jim, I regret to inform you that this is a range map of the massasauga rattlesnake, and I have seen them in Huntington County, IN. Watch your step!
you take that back right now! lol I work most of my weeks in Huntington county and hunt all over, I better not see a rattlesnake!
There was actually a small child that was bitten by one of those a few years ago. The family was camping somewhere north of Warsaw, if you know where that is, and they ended up killing it. The child was flown to Ft. Wayne for treatment and I think he was ok. Still I think it would be super rare to see any venomous snake in this part of the state. In my 40yrs of hunting and being in the woods, I never have. Sent from my SM-N975U1 using Tapatalk
I believe that was when a zoo in Ohio had to rush anti-venom to the state line and ISP met them and rushed it to the hospital. They were FLYING!
Random factoid: My brother did his graduate studies on the Massasagua in Oregon MO. He became know as 'the snake guy' all over the county. He said he added one of the largest timber rattlers he ever found from the area...big around as his forearm and about 6' in length.
they're super rare. I can't remember if this was Salamonie or Huntington reservoir...was about 30 years ago, was scouting for deer season with a high school buddy.
Our farm here in TN is right above the one and only Copperhead Rd we see far more black snakes than copperheads usually though. We supposedly have timber rattlers here too, I've yet to see one though. I don't worry about snakes here as much as I do at my grandparents farm in S AL, but I keep them in mind every time I cross a log or find a place to sit down. It is however, very different hunting with bears around. I had one climb up the tree I was in last year, those things are fast!
Spent some time on an island. Hadn't been out there for 4 months. Jumped one maybe 100 inch 2 yr old out of his bed on river bank. Water is super low. No way a boat off the main channel can access the southern part of this island. Found some bones that were exposed from the flooding. Down to 1 spot left that I want to walk and kayak one more time.
I went out to take progress pics of the blind, rounded end of garden fence to plot and ran into a flock of turkey that ran 10 ft past blind. I'll take it as a good sign. Front sided and half of one side. Door needs cutting down to do back wall. Need one more tarp. Then staple inside lining. Windows will have the usual covering
Posted this in our team thread but it deserves a post here too. Have had a bear+3 cubs on camera almost every day. Went to fix the 2 cameras the bears messed with. Didn’t make it to the 2nd one. Walked up on an area along the corn that looked like bears had been laying (grass matted and eaten cobs all over). Walked a bit and heard something. Stopped and listened for 3 seconds before I realized it was a bear breathing real heavy. I must have been real real close. Haven’t ran that fast for that long since high school. Crashed through the 27 acre corn field and boogied out of there. Last time I go out there without a sidearm. Woo wee. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I haven’t been that scared in a long time lol. At first I was running against the grain of the corn and fell like 3 times crashing through the first few rows Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Making obligatory first post so it’s in my participated list. Good luck out there everyone! My season starts Saturday here in Kentucky!! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
