Lol, I checked field down by blind and had a guy that was his twin with a fork and doe. All within 70 yrds of blind.
It’s funny you ask that. Let me post an OnX pic: I accidentally deleted the blood trail track, but let me see if I can explain this: The lower blue stand is where I was. The red X marker right below that was where the buck was when I shot him. The trail that goes from the left red X to the middle red X is Elly May’s track. The middle red X is on a road that runs NW-SE. When Elly May hit that road she wanted to follow it but there was no sign. I went with her a ways but she wasn’t even tracking. I had to practically drag her back up the hill. The part of Elly May’s track to the road was accurate. The actual blood trail crossed the road and circled back right to the blood marker, which is last blood…. in the road. The wind was out of the SE and SSE, and Elly has smelled dead deer before and cut off the trail to go straight to them. Im just now realizing that Elly May might have winded the dead buck and I dragged her off of the trail. To answer your question directly, there IS a ravine on the other side of the valley from the road where it hits the bottom and that ravine leads straight to a year round spring-fed creek. That ravine would have been upwind of where we were. Tomorrow my wife and I are going to take Elly May back down to last blood and let her run. It’ll really hurt me if she was right, I was wrong and I dragged her off an accurate track.
Had an eventful sit, passed on the does for tonight. Had the buck I saw last sit come through chasing doe, drew back and almost made a mistake. Glad I saw what deer it was. Really hope he makes it till next year. @LittleChief I sure hope you find that buck tom!
LC and Camo, good luck on finding them. Over my many years of hunting, I've known this feeling a few times and it really sucks. Hopefully it will turn around and you'll both find them!
Had a little 6 point come in the last 15 minutes. That was the only sighting this evening. Back out tomorrow evening with the grandson.
