Well after I woke up from my afternoon through early evening nap (see rant thread)...the wife says 'Hey there's a deer out back'. I think she's trying to get me jazzed annoy the season and/or out of the house. Small buck, maybe weighed 120. Just starting to lose the summer coat Literally 10' out back of the house.
looks like maybe the bach groups are breaking up, or maybe just moved out of my area for the time being. Haven't had more than one mature buck together in the same pic since the 19th. Come to think of it, that was the last day I had a 140+ on cam in daylight, too. I'm not worried about it, just making an observation.
I'm waiting on that shift now. Cameras are in fall pattern areas and nothing so far. I may go move one to a travel route to the nw I know they are using to go over on my cousins farm (no longer active) Theyll show up soon enough. I hope.
Got out this morning to tune broadheads. Bow was bareshaft tuned, but to my 3d arrows and was turned down to 61 pounds. Bumped poundage up to 65 and switched to hunting arrows. Shot a 3blade fixed against a field point. End result at 40 yards. Come on hunting season! Will be chasing elk in two weeks.
This time next week will be backpacking into my spot for a Sunday morning start! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I’m getting pics that look like the antlers are hard and velvet isn’t long for staying on. It shouldn’t be long
@Jezzy670 and I went out and got a couple of hang on stands set up today. Primarily a deterrent to other people setting up in the spots, but also for my son to use. Took both of my older boys with us to help. Spot #1 is along a lakeshore where it meets a slough, tons of doe traffic and should produce shots at does early and being a good cruising spot during the rut. Spot #2 is along a creek bed at a crossing with several white oaks within 30 yards. Both stands are about 16 feet up with good shooting lanes in multiple directions. I will leave it up @Jezzy670 if he wants to post the bachelor group that was on his trail camera. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
yeah, this guy looked like he was about to burst through, he was my last 130-140 in daylight; on the 19th
that's another one there in the back I don't think any of them are ones I'm gonna shoot except maybe the one in the back.
^^^ just so I am clear, that 'not sure I would shoot any of these' only applies to where these guys are at on private in WI. Anything close to those on my public land spots in IL, IN, and MI are getting stuck with at least an arrow or 5. That little kill plot where they're feeding is less than 100 yards from where I dropped Pincushion in 18 (straight to the rear of the camera view) and that really nice 130" 7 point (busted G2) I killed back in 20 tipped over behind that wood pile dead ahead on the other side of that furthest buck in the pic. That little 3 acre or so plateau has been a killing field for me.
Some great pics there guys . I wish everyone of you a great , successful, safe season. This is the first year in many I have not put out a single camera. Bought a new cheapy that didn't work, first fail on those, and just brought it in. So old school of pick a spot and hope for a surprise. How's your mast this season. We have good red drop, great chestnut, good apples and crazy pear.
Yeah. He checked a camera out, didn't damage it. I went up there after seeing the pic. Wanted him to know I'm around. Really hoses up the deer and me.
A local friend, I convinced him to join the form about a montha go and sign up for the contest. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
