After I made my last post about it starting any minute I put my phone in my pocket, looked up and a doe was in the road 70 yards away. For the next hour deer were moving like crazy. At least two bucks were chasing does and other does kept moving through the area. This is a terrible tree. I said someone had hunted it before because of the netting. Evidently every deer that steps onto the road knows to look this tree over because I’ve been picked off four times and I wasn’t moving. I felt like I had a flashing neon sign around my neck. Surely it’s not the new camo.
Actually, it could be the new camo if it is made of the wrong materials. This is a great podcast on how deer see the UV spectrum, which is visible in some fabric types, that the human eye can not see.
Man Brett, that first one is a TANK! Kill! Sent from my SM-S908U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I am down. Good morning for my little neck of the public woods. 5 doe and a coyote, all just across slew, and at 60 to 80 yards. Hopefully tomorrow the preferred path will be my side of the slew. Good luck the rest of the day, Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I had to take today off. I’m having some bawl issues. Hopefully I’ll be out tomorrow in the am. good luck killers
It's great to hear all the buck movements happening this week! I will be on stand this evening. Got a pinch point on the tip of a cattail marsh that leads up into some big timber. Also, a creek that dumps into the marsh. Have 4 transitions all dumping into this 1 area. Found it last winter. Also, there were 3 dead bucks in there, all fairly big, from all different years. Think i will put my first sit at this spot. I'm kind of excited about this. Also, I have an extra buck tag that just opened yesterday and is only good for 3 days. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
Well after phone rang out I never saw another deer or turkey. I moved the stand directly 11 yrds back into the woods. It was the only one viable for a climb. The pig nut was way too wide I am using a WHOLE DIFFERENT set of muscles and my shoulders and knees are on fire Pulled the garden blind cam . Finally got deer closer ,still around midnight. Doe fawn and 2 buck both wide. One an 8 and one a 6. Unfortunately the older big 8, every tine not over 4 inches on heavy main beam. About same on the 6, though he's smaller
Man oh man LC, I expect to see your signature "arrow launched" any time now, it is just a matter of time. That new property is freaking awesome. I also had the same thought as Cantexian. Clothing with phosphates in it is said to be what creates that UV glow that deer can see really well. I seem to remember that using a black light would show if camo had phosphates in it, it would glow like a white shirt in a black light. I also wanted to mention, with new hunting clothing it is a great idea to take a few shots and ensure you don't have any string contact or anything going on with it. Would suck to find out the hard way.
I always feel my first climber use of the year in my abs. Apparently I need to do some crunches more often ha ha.
He was just cruising steady and slow. Funnily enough he was headed straight to the tree I was in yesterday.
Sorry I dropped off the radar there for a couple of hours. I got down, went back to the house, changed and then drove to town to try to return that camo outfit. I managed to return the jacket because it was defective. Last night one of the snaps just came out of it while removing the liner to wash it. Since I had washed it and worn it they said I couldn’t return the pants. Something tells me the pants will be defective soon and therefore returnable. Folks, I have never been spotted so many times by so many deer. I kid you not, every deer that came into good visual range saw me immediately. Like I said, I might as well have been wearing a flashing neon sign. The first doe I saw spotted me as soon as she stepped into the road 70 yards away and I had good cover. Even the buck looked up at me through the white oak leaves that were between us. He didn’t spook though. He casually continued on his way I guess I’ll find some safety pins, pin the jacket closed and make do with what I have for now.
Use what you have to your benefit. Get out your old pants and take your new pants out with you in hand. From memory calculate the distance from you the deer stopped when spotting you. Then tie a line to the pants and toss the other end over a tall limb and tie off where you think the deer will stop looking away from you in range
