Had three does in the small field a while ago and one unknown deer in the woods west of me.

The does walked by at 40 yards but I decided not to take that shot.

obviously, I am joking, but for real- so far I think we have more misses than bodies stacked on this thread.

Little late checking back in . Just been enjoying the morning. Did a big drive around all the fields this morning scanning with thermal. Saw tons of deer but with the wind i have i couldnt formulate a good enough plan that i had the guts to try in the dark. This place can be mean. so i just headed to an old familiar tree for the morning. Havent seen a deer from the stand yet but i keep hearing people talking. Might be gun hunters putting stands up or scouting. You think theyd have a little courtesy. Geez. Anyhow this is a much needed change in weather here. Overcast and about 48 degrees with light drizzle. Im actually kinda cold haha. Time to pay attention. Good luck everyone!

It’s 9:10. I’m going to give it until 9:30 or 10:00 and then get down and relocate this climber.

This is a great spot but I don’t want to burn it out, especially since I don’t think the mature bucks are moving in daylight yet.

This will be a fantastic spot in a couple of weeks.

glad I am off hunting for the next 9 days. Did alternating one-legged squats yesterday without stretching and woke up lame this AM. Last time this happened was in the middle of rut-cation and at the worst of it I couldn't walk much more than 100 yards under load (back when I was lugging a 25# climber deep into the woods.)

That's funny, but I can relate! I've been hunting the same woods, which I know well, for 22 years. One night about 5 years ago, I was coming out without a light like I often do, just following my usual defined trail that I use religiously, and I very briefly took my eyes off of it. Took a few steps and realized I wasn't on my trail anymore. Turned on my flashlight and everything looked exactly the same. I was technically lost! :bash: After an hour and a half of wandering around I finally found the pipeline I needed to be on to get out. I had left my phone (Google Maps) in my truck.

I agree. The most recent cam pics I've gotten of mature bucks in my area are all nightime pics. I've only been seeing does during daylight, so far. Bring on the rut!

I know I didn’t really hurt that doe but it wasn’t a totally clean miss after all. Gave her a nick and a hair cut.

I'm down and out. I only saw the one small buck this morning about 80yds off. The picture I posted earlier of the buck from yesterday evening that I thought was making a scrape, in fact was doing just that. I got out of my stand and walked to where it was and sure enough there was a brand new scrape! Screenshot_20241015-071533.jpg 20241015_102021.jpg

Got back a half hour ago. Took long way home to check trails and water pond leak I fixed at gypsy blind. Lots of clearing needed and a small rub found . The pond stopped leaking. Turned to head to chick coop then home. There up hill and down wind of blind, several white tails bounding into sanctuary nieghbors...lol
