I don’t think so. I don’t want to burn this spot out and I have a ton of places with scrapes and rubs. I’ll hunt there in the morning and then I’m going to move to another spot that looks really good tomorrow afternoon. The only climbable tree is a hickory (I hate those), but if I can get high enough I’d just about bet I’ll have a chance. This place is crawling with deer. I’ve never seen anything like it as far as sign goes.
Empty freezer calls for desperate measures for an evening snack. Paired with a slice of leftover garlic bread, it was surprisingly decent. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
^ you guys need to understand this property is 4 hours from my house and I can only hunt it when I go with my buddy (landowner) who is self-employed and every day he's hunting he's not working ...he's never expressly said I can't hunt it when he's not there but it feels weird to even think to ask. We're hunting buddies. When he hunts, I hunt. Vice-versa.
He's an independant welder (and a damn good one- he did some work on my trailer and it's tits.) Every job he would give away he'd be undercutting his bottom line.
If that happens tomorrow, I an calling in sick and heading to the woods! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
let's be honest, who takes vacation time to hunt early October? This is the first year in a decade of running cams on this property that I am getting regular daylight pics of a shooter buck in early October.
I like the first part of October almost more than the rut, especially if I have certain deer I’m trying to kill. You find the key food it’s a wrap, if I had to call off I’d do it when the time was right in early October. Granted I’ve been trying to kill a specific deer and coming up short, I’m close tho and seeing alot of good bucks.
I think the end of this week into next week could be as close of perfect conditions at killing a target buck all year with this cold front coming in. Get on the scrapes and hope you pick the right one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
because I primarily travel 3+hours to hunt in 2 different (non-res states,) my personal life and my hunting life rarely line up. I try to nibble around the edges of cold fronts and weather early season, then just jump in balls deep come November. This year is a little different b/c my dad is hunting with me for the first time in the better part of a decade- He's coming up Oct 24 so we will be at MI deer camp through Nov 4. Shifted my early season schedule somewhat. ^ that's if Milton doesn't kill him. He's near Port Charlotte and isn't evaccing.
I’m up and will be headed out in about 15 minutes. I don’t have any confidence in where I’m at for a morning spot. I came close to sleeping in and moving everything this afternoon, but even this far onto secluded private land I don’t like the idea of my bow and all my gear sitting in a tree in daylight. Plus, you just never know. Just because I didn’t see anything walk by this tree yesterday morning doesn’t mean something won’t come by this morning.
