He is a great looking buck! Very happy you found him and put an end to the wondering where he could have gone.
Stinks you did not find him in time. At least you found him. Sent from my SM-G990U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I could've shot a doe tonight, but she was with the smallest fawn I've ever seen in October. The fawn was feeding on her and mom was licking her and I just couldn't do it. It’s been an awfully slow start for me Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
yea, I wont shoot a doe with spotted fawns either ... good choice ... I'm never that hard up just to make a kill ... wont kill a doe under 1.5 yrs old either ...
I'm back at the house now. I only saw one deer, but it was a good buck and I came close to getting a shot. He came out into the road and was walking straight to me but he turned, worked the scrapes just out of range and then went into the woods. I just picked the wrong tree. He wasn't big. Probably my typical 115"-120" buck, but I'd sure have shot him given the chance. I was hearing deer almost the entire last hour. They were traveling in the thick cover but wouldn't come out into the opening. Also, that road is grown up with chest high weeds. It's easy to see in the daylight, but coming out at night it's hard to tell if I'm on the road. If I hadn't had a track saved on OnX I'd have gotten lost for sure. I left my gear in the tree and I'll go back there in the morning. I have to say that I'm feeling pretty excited about this new place.
I’m back home, had a fun sit. Saw 7 bucks and 5 doe. Drew back 2x on a a nice 9pt but couldn’t bring myself to do it.
Baiting might be illegal in your state, and you may have feelings against it, but I don't think there's any law (on private) forbidding the trimming of oak limbs. On Friday, my buddy trimmed a lane from his box blind to a clover plot so his daughter would have a clear shot during the youth gun hunt, and since then the does and fawns have been completely ignoring the clover and hammering the trimmed branch leaves
I hate Mondays.... (20 yards from my stand) this is the second time since Opening Day the same buck has done this.
Didn’t you say you were retiring the end of this month? Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
by the end of the month, that buck will be 3 miles from where he is now once he starts his sojourns looking for love ... hopefully someone else dosnt get him before you get a crack at him .......
I went in and made a big loop into the wind. On a piece of public i havent hinted in a long time. There was a lot of trucks in the parking lot so i took my time and tried not to screw up anyones hunt. Walked 3.25 miles before i found the sign i wanted to see. Didnt see a deer though. Could hear them moving after dark. Guy in the parking lot said it was crazy this weekend. Full parking lot, guys arguing. Probably stupid to hunt there on a monday after a weekend like that but hey i got to knock the dust off and get in a tree. It was enough to remind me that i dont much care for early season. I dont do well in heat after my heat stroke awhile ago and the mosquitos by the river will carry you away. I probably have malaria. The 2 things i forgot at the truck. Water and thermacell
looks like he's all set. there's bigger ones in the area, but he's the only shooter I've had in daylight since opening day
