I stayed home today to finish packing my deer up, gonna head out around 12:30/1 to go into an urban area, looking for a couple big bucks I been watching. Gonna scout my way in, have a perfect wind for entry, it’s gonna be blowing to a major highway and I’m hoping that highway noise will help mask my walking noise. I’m looking to tuck up to this bedding on this hillside just across the creek that runs through the whole property. Haven’t been there in a year, but today is the day with the temps rising in the next couple days. Little voice is telling me to go, gonna bring my frame pack, it’s gonna be a pack out if I connect.
It's funny you say that about the eyes. My daughter walked past the deer this morning and said "I'm glad you killed that deer" . I asked why and she said "It has creepy eyes!" I laughed alittle at that. She is 6 Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
Leaves changing quick here in central MN. 30 days many of us will be in our favorite rut stands. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I’m up, got in nice and easy. I’m where I think I have to be. I’m on a rise between two cattail swamps with a creek running just beyond them. Other side of creek is a small bottom with oaks all around it that leads up to hilly thick bedding. Other side where I came from is open woods mainly with oak and other hardwoods. Wind is doing weird stuff but I’m not giving it all away.
Didn't see a thing this morning. I carried all of my gear out, went back to the cabin, loaded up and made the 3 1/2 hour drive home. I'll be going back before too long. In the meantime I'll be doing some more hunting here at home.
I know a lot of folks don’t believe in moon phases, but you know I do. I’ve always been told that when the moon is full or nearly full mid-day is a good time to hunt. One of my club members just sent me the below pic taken 2 1/2 hours ago on one of these hot, miserable days. My hunting app isn’t far off that movement time.
Marginal at best wind and a million+ stickers on me but I’m tucked into my little oak on the edge of the swamp. Beans and corn to the south a few hundred yards. Kind of just watching right now. On the fence about getting a doe yet. We will see what happens. Usually my rut stand but I liked to get in here once or twice early season since I can see so much. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
They were hammering the white oaks where I was walking in from at the upper 1/3 behind some houses, as I got down lower the sign continued but wasn’t as concentrated like at top. A lot of heavy trails down to the creek and I saw one large crossing. I backed up and circled around and cut some big tracks on a secondary trail, I followed it and put myself in between the two cattail areas just above the creek 25yds.
Sounds like you got it figured out. Like how you got off the ridge and got lower in elevation. Catch them earlier in the light and not get busted from falling thermals. Looks like your in for a good night! Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
