Still think bob cat. No toenail marks on that line track at the bottom.

Another DSS sit. I’m going to hunt the same tree in the morning and the next time I climb a tree it’ll be in Arkansas.

    Early night for me.

Morning hunt was a difficult to reach spot. A brutal 4wd road in. But what a view!
    Image1695170652.912314.jpg

A draw on either side of the valley. We worked up the right draw. Difficult with the snow to navigate the steep inclines. As the sun came up the melt falling from the trees had me drenched...except for the ankles ( thanks gaiters). Some where around 11.8 I tweaked my knee which made bending my knee and especially decending the few hundred feet to the valley floor. Little fresh scat, no rubs, only a few early tracks.

When we got to the valley floor, we did cut some fresh tracks (a few elk dropped below us) in the snow, where the sun hadn't yet reached. We followed them about a mile up the other (shaded) side of the valley. As we ascended my gaiters became hooked together...after struggling for what seemed like minutes, my buddy was able to figure out why I was flipping about on the ground and help get them separated (hook at top caught strap that runs under foot). We lost the tracks after we climbed (and a bit of limping) to hit a game trail just below some cobble above tree line, but in the sun.

We stayed on the game trail which brought us around to the other draw. Mature pines, hellatous blow downs and a stretch of terrain for for mountain goats (our wives would've killed us if they knew, and we didn't fall down the avalanche chute.

Man, crazy fresh tracks, scat and rubs. But for the second day, nothing answering the calls and zip for sightings.

After a week + in the backcountry and few days of getting wet from precip and snow, we headed to town. Hit the public shower in town and the laundry.

Afternoon hunt was a short one. I sat water, and no recent tracks, until another squall, or what felt like one, blew in. More snow a couple thousand feet above.

Knee doesn't feel great, time for more ibuprofen, dinner, sleep.

Man, great pics. Elk or not, you win for just being there.

I’m set up. I checked the weather app earlier to verify the wind and saw rain coming. It looks like it’ll be light rain for a few hours.

I almost stayed home but my gear was in the tree so I dug out my tree umbrella and I’m sitting here under it waiting on rain and daylight.

It is definitely a cat, probably a bobcat. I didn't know they lived at the high of elevation.

First round at 50. If I repeat day one and donkey a shot it's on me. Bow is on.
