I'm all right in low light but what I'm not very good at is when the animal/ target is in the shade and I'm in the sun light and a little distance. 27+ yards. My shot is Usually high and right when I shoot. I've been practicing that same scenario. So so,
Dang just got busted by two does coming in down wind and behind me, I’m on a ridge and basically eye level so not sure if they caught me moving or got my wind. Was not expecting them to come in from that direction at all
I’m drinking coffee on the front porch of my camp house fixing to start working on food plots. Good luck a.m. shift October 14 is my opener.
Congratulations on the doe VT I have a bad cold. Alarm set for 545, but didn't get up. Woke up at 630....I felt like I could hunt. Hurried to a super easy access stand - perfect for this south wind. Up tree about shooting tine. Shot a doe at 730. Low and back. Maybe heard her crash. Early doe season in Michigan. Dropped my quiver. Could have shot another. Dang.
Cool encounter! Number 70 I've seen in the wild while hunting! He was definitely good sized! I admit my heart is racing a bit. Sent from my SM-S911U using Tapatalk
Out with my two boys for early doe season in MI. No deer spotted or shot so far. Beautiful morning to be in the woods though. Good luck for those out and those tracking
Snuck out of tree. Walked by her path. Tough to see, but here's some blood pics. Have a friend coming with their dog, Moose. This is simply a training exercise. Hopefully it doesn't mess up our tracking. He's never tracked a deer before.
Thanks Johnny, unfortunately, I'm not in the woods this morning. Weatherman said wind gusts to 40mph from Lee passing us on the coast...So far since I've been up with the dogs at 430, it's less windy than yesterday. Bummer! Lots of thinking and realizations that started while I was in the tree yesterday. The way I have hunted for the past 7 years, no longer fits into my lifestyle due to my career. I simply do not have the time or energy to devote to the scouting and time it requires to hunt my public land spot and be successful (success being measured by my enjoyment and satisfaction, not kills). I found myself questioning what I was doing, and how it seemed inefficient, dumb, and not as enjoyable as it had been in years past knowing the lack of deer in these woods. I think I needed to experience it myself, to realize it. Not sure where to go from here.......but it may be time to go outside my comfort zone to keep hunting part of my life. Sorry for the novel!! Congrats @vermontwhitetail !!!!
Well I might have shot two Doe while waiting for my trackers. Been grid searching an hour, no luck and it's a small piece of woods.
Unbelievable! I sat until 9:30 and didn't see a thing. I packed up to move to a different spot this afternoon walked out. Just before I got to my gate that crosses the road I jumped a heck of a buck bedded in the thicket by my walk-in road. I watched it bounce away and thought to myself "Well that figures". I started walking again and I hadn't gone 1o yards when I jumped a doe out of the same thicket. It's just not my opening weekend I guess.
