Nothing more for me. Ran into a small deer on the walk out. Can't believe that entire green field and not a single deer came out in it. All well off to the next hunt! Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
The heavy rain started at 4am...around 6:15 accuweather said the rain was done...accuweather lied. The light rain and 40 degree temps as we set out. About 7am my buddy caught a glimpse of blond through the light rain...a Coyote about 120yds out. We...OK I got turned around for about an hour, with no sun and no visibility of the nearby mtn peaks as landmarks. It was so dang wet and cold pulling out the phone was trying...but soon after we started moving we heard a nearby shot (muzzle loader season overlaps archery this week). Thinking this may be out new buddy that gave us a tip on a nice bull...though he only has a cow tag, we figured we'd check with him in an hour... We found some fresh elk tracks, with dry dirt kicked up from under the mud. We told maybe 10 steps and saw a cow about 80-100 yds..she ran off. Checked with our buddy, not him. We worked out way toward the spot we received as a tip. And though we were off a bit, we saw a blond mass (elk) maybe 80+ yds away...not moving...we were able to gain a bit of ground after about 10 minutes and a few calls. Holding the riser hurt from the soaked through gloves (and wetted through rain gear). Eventually he came into about 60 yds, still not giving a good opportunity. Not seeing what he expected, he moved off after about a 15 minute stand off. Hiked back to camp, I changed clothes into a dry set. Ran into town for lunch and got some additional Intel from a friend of a friend...we plan to tap later in the week. Afternoon hunt was a total bust in some nice country. Advil time and hit the sack for tomorrow's early appt with the elk.
3am roll call!!!! Got the go ahead later in the day yesterday to be in a tree in MD this morning, temps dropping to 51 before sunrise with a high of 71. Heading to the same general area I did for the opener where I had the encounter with those bucks, not expecting them to be back but it seemed like a lot of deer were using that ridge! Good luck on the track this morning VT! And good luck to all those hitting the woods!
All set up in MD, same spot as last time, highly doubt that bachelor group will come through again but it could happens hopefully this time it is less eyes and I can get a shot! Beautiful crunchy morning. I can hear the acorns still dropping all around me. Going to be a great sit. I wanted to get in a different tree down the hill a little further, but I wasn’t sure what it would look like shooting up towards the trail I’m set up on so I’m actually in the same tree as last time. If the do the same thing as last week I’ll be golden
I’m awake, dressed and getting coffeed up. I’ll head out in about a half hour. Not seeing anything at all yesterday on what should have been a great day kind of took the wind out of my sails but it’s a new day and anything is possible.
I'm up and ready! Finally it's a nice cool 62 degrees. Pretty quiet walk in. I was a little disappointed when I saw that 95% of the yearling oaks that were in here last year are gone. But im set up and going to make the best of it! Good luck AM shift! Sent from my SM-S911U using Tapatalk
This spot has always been good to me. I've seen a lot of deer here and even missed the biggest buck I've ever seen 2 years ago. The fog is finally starting to lift so I'm hoping these deer will get moving soon. Sent from my SM-S911U using Tapatalk
Arrow launched on another Doe. I can see this one laying 15yds from the stand, through the brush. No tracking necessary. I'll go look for last nights in a little bit. Have help coming to grid search.
So far this AM I've had the one I just shot. 2-4pts hung out behind me. A blowing Doe was with them and finally I had a Doe/Fawn pair walk through. Good amount of deer seen. Just gonna sit up here till my help shows up. Never know when a nice 8 might show up.
Congrats VT, if they blow they must go!!!! Wishing I was in a tree right now More blood plz and thx you
