Thanks everyone! Definitely one of the tougher seasons I have had for sure. Now to switch gears back to whitetails!
Salt blocks and apple flavor Lucky Buck purchased. It’s been my go to for inventory the last few years. Cards cleared, batteries purchased, and put in the cameras. Hoping to get out Saturday to get 6-7 cams set. Way way way later than usual for me. Hope everyone is doing well! My shooting is on hold. Have had a sore shoulder for just over 2 months now. Rest is not helping it. Getting a physical tomorrow and will ask about PT options. Just a dull pain all the time but it does act up when doing certain things. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I’m getting mine put on Sunday with a buddy, bought them back in February and have just been too busy with the two under two to get out and get the new strings on!
Back from a nice 42 mile walk through the woods, but only saw 1 bear, 1 deer and a half dozen tatted up idiots trying to cure their cases affluenza. Did meet a couple interesting folks along the trail too… An ultrathoner who will be embarking on his 3rd annual AT run…this years goal 42 days. A 30year army vet from VA. A musician who has opened for the Grateful Dead and many other popular bands of years gone by.
3 mile walk for nothing. Haha. I pulled my kayak up over 12 feet above water level. Floods came and 10X the water height. Kayak gone. Haha. Lucky it was my 12yr old cheap kayak.
Put out another cam. I really want to get 3, 140 inchers or better on cam prior to season. That is going to be very difficult, but I have a goal. Focus in on the areas that hold one. Inventory.
I’m ready to goooooo, got minerals out all over pa with some cams. Need to get to Ohio, have some land work to go at local prop in Pa. Been shooting a lot, painted my run and gun stand, it was down to bare metal in a lot of spots. Getting the small things knocked out. Got new dozen arrows built and all tuned. Broadheads stocked up, bought a surplus of AA battery’s for cameras. Have an elevated blind stand to build and some stands to trim out. Put mosquito tabs in the man made water holes. Planting a screen crop at the Pa lease I have for the road watchers, it will hide the whole field/plot that can be seen from road , had a guy shoot a deer in gun season off the road last year. Trying to deter that, for safety if not for moral purposes. Also have to over seed and cut some cover plots I have. Went for a paint splatter camo, charcoal base and plastic dip black specs, hope the deer like it haha.
hopefully another good acorn crop on the state land I hunt ... forecast is a hotter than usual 'summer' ... great, there goes the EHD again .. the farmers wont like the high heat, unless there is ample rain to mitigate the heat ... btw, the Indy 500 on Sunday may be rained out or shortened due to storms around Indy, hope not ..
Looks like corn on the farmers field behind gypsy blind. The farmer next to house has yet to plant. They sprayed and disced manure. Then they came up with a powder. I honestly don't believe lime, maybe magniesium? It certainly not a big load. They then turned soil again.
Got all of my cameras and minerals/blocks out. Man is it a workout carrying those 50lb blocks in.. don’t have the opportunity to drive up to my mineral sites. Had to carry one a few hundred yards… with a bum shoulder that was not fun. Only one tick and about 5 billion mosquitoes. Now we wait! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I don’t doubt that at all! I’m in the process of selling my skid steer and getting a tractor with some attachments.
Got in a good scout with a buddy today.’we covered about five miles between two spots. Last spot we went to we found an active scrape as well as what was likely a bedding area for a bachelor group of bucks. Multiple trails leading from different directions, two of them coming past the scrape and into a small thicket along a tiny creek, not much more than a ditch, but holding water. Found a few beds alongside a large fallen tree next to the creek. We put up a camera at the point just outside the thickets where the trails converge. A couple of sets of tracks were too big to be does. There were at least four different distinct sets of tracks that we could make out and there were several rubs along the trails leading into the thicket. Arkansas is doing an archery only buck only early hunt September 7-9 for the first time this year. This is before the regular opener on the last Saturday of September. I think we found the spot where at least one of is going to hunt. All of the pictures are different directions where the trails converge right outside the thickets.
