I ended up seeing three deer about 15 minutes before dark. They were about 70 yards away and never came closer before I ran out of light. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
The white River dropped pretty quickly and I was planning on heading back to Wattensaw WMA tomorrow to hunt the last week of the Arkansas season. I checked the forecast and the temps are supposed to be in the high 60’s and 70’s. Really? I would need to break out my early season gear and treat with permethrin. Also, a buddy of mine who lives there said that they are holding a major squirrel hunting championship there this weekend. That was enough for me to say forget it. My season is now officially over and I’m going bass fishing. I’ve had a pretty good season.
You know there are other WMAs in the state, and, we have decent bass fishing when the hunting is slow.
I am in for one last hurrah. About two hours before dark, same spot as last weekend, I move about 60 yards to cover the trail into the food plot that the deer used just before dark. Unfortunately, the only tree small enough for the straps on my sticks has a ton of branches, too many to get around. I am only about 12 feet up, but with decent cover. Hopefully it is enough. Expecting deer to come from the thicket in the first picture, the edge is 40 yards away. But, they could come anywhere. Food plot is at my back. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Got skunked, not really surprised, full moon, windy and unseasonably warm, high was 78. But, it was the last chance before season closes at the end of the month. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Damn 78!! Good on you for getting out, I just scoped up my dad’s .22 from way back. Going to go squirrel and rabbit hunting with my buddy tomorrow to burn a day
I missed a pile of squirrels with the .22 had a blast burning the day and we ended up with enough for a big meal.
Been walking a good way on this island. So far it's been productive. Buck beds. Dead heads. Sheds. Jumped a group of shed bucks...tracks.
That place is looking awesome. Do you think it gets much pressure? Sent from my SM-N975U1 using Tapatalk
Out shed hunting and still finding snakes. Just for reference it was 50 degrees out today Sent from my SM-G990U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I walked about 3 miles today. Ran into 2 cameras. Didn't see but a few boot tracks in likely spots. The island is over a mile long and pretty wide. Not too bad.
