I made the drive back home this morning and got the doe I killed on Monday off ice and into the fridge. It'll get processed soon.

It looks like the White River will hit the 28 foot mark at Clarendon, AR late Wednesday. When that happens Wattensaw WMA closes and remains closed until the river drops below 27 feet at Clarendon, which could happen before the last day of the season on 28 February but its unlikely it'll drop that fast.

If it closes my season is pretty much finished. I guess I could head to Mountain Home, AR. My nephew bought a 40 acre place and wants me to come and hunt it. Maybe I should just hang the bow up for the year and start bass fishing, but I hate being a quitter.

Yes it does. That’s why they shut it down. It becomes too easy to kill then.

Are you absolutely certain your area don’t close?

There’s a number to call and they have a huge list of areas that close when the rivers flood.

Absolutely certain, there is not a major river system through it. Any flooding is related to heavy rains in low spots and evaporates within a couple of days of sunlight.

They're probably plotting your demise, given how many you killed this year!

I'm just picking off the stragglers from the edges, they don't even know I was there. Haha

I had a great year. Gave up on any type of trophy hunting and just went to have fun. Goal of every sit was just to see deer. And I did. If I did 50 sits this year, think I had less then 10 that I didn't see deer. Think I passed around 20 bucks under 2 1/2 years old. Just got to let those little buggers grow.

But getting the itch to find another monster buck and most likely will be trophy hunting next year. It was a good change of pace this year and was great to not put any pressure on my self.

Triple beam buck, large 8, 2 large 9’s, and an 11. Most seem to have made it through gun season at least.

Those look really nice. I've been hearing negative things about the deer hunting in MN lately. Mostly complaints about wolves.

I’m right on the border of the wolves area and have only had 3 on camera the last 3 or so years. They are getting bad just to my north and do believe they are having an impact on the deer population.

We’ve had little to no snow this year which I think actually helps the deer easier escape them, but it’s still bad. There are large movements that are getting traction/getting politicians involved to start a wolf season. I doubt it will happen in our state.

I turned my cell cams off mid November (after rifle season) and let the rest of my cameras just soak/die. Stupid I know.

Here’s a pic of the on-side shoulder blade from the last doe I shot. The Slick Trick Magnum did a number on it.

The bone is called the “scapula”. What would you call a scapula on a human or any other animal, Dave?

Oh, and a Rage would have bounced off and the deer would have just bounced out to 50 yards and flipped me off (if it had a middle hoof, that is). :poke:

I said before that when the White River hits 28 feet at Clarendon, AR they shut Wattensaw WMA down.
It crested yesterday at 27.99 feet. I called and verified that the WMA is still open so barring any unforeseen obstacles I’m going to go back Monday morning for another week of bow hunting for that elusive third Wattensaw deer.
