@cantexian It's hard to believe you guys have more than a month of season left. Incredible! Sent from my SM-N975U1 using Tapatalk
It is, part of me wishes they could end it a couple of weeks earlier and open it a couple of weeks earlier, but I can't complain too much. We have one of, if not the, longest archery seasons in the country.
There is an older member of our club and he’s always giving me grief for shooting Slick Tricks. I can’t begin to number the times I’ve heard him say “Why, them bird points won’t kill a deer. You need to shoot a real broad head.” I just sent him this pic of the off-side leg/rib cage and said “Yeah, them bird points won’t kill a deer”. This is the entry wound through the on-side scapula. For the record, I wouldn’t have tried this shot on a mature buck. This doe only field dressed 80 pounds.
I always loved the slick tricks when I was shooting a vertical bow. Sent from my SM-N975U1 using Tapatalk
I always had good luck with Slicks but I hardly ever got good blood trails.....My color blind eyes just didn't do well with them.
They’re a great broad head. One of the guys in the club next door has 22 new-in-package Slick Trick Magnums and three packs of replacement blades. He switched to Rage and he’s going to sell them all to me for $120. That should stock me up for a while.
I’ve almost always had good blood trails with them. Well, as long as I put the arrow in a good location and get an exit wound. I’m colorblind also and it’s a miracle if I can find blood regardless of how good the blood trail is. Even though the damage was horrendous on the off-side of the doe last night the broad head didn’t punch through the hide so I couldn’t find any blood on the ground. Not even when I walked up to her.
The doe is cut up and on ice now. I’ll be getting back in a tree this afternoon looking to tag out at Wattensaw WMA. You can only kill three deer here and I’ve only managed to tag out once in all the years I’ve hunted here.
I grew up between Albany and Saratoga yet I still equate Northern NY to the Adirondaks (and borders)...even though I know that's not accurate. It's a really nice deer from those parts, for sure.
I actually live in Jefferson county on the eastern shore of lake Ontario so about 35 minutes south Canada - That buck was taken in Montgomery County Maryland when I lived down that way for work. I honestly never liked living down there with all the traffic and hustle and bustle of suburban living but loved the 5 month long hunting season that kept me sane
