Catching slabs. Don’t get into these type of fish often. Put on the miles before we found them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I really wanted to be hunting the past few days but whatever bug I caught during the family get together at my house for New Years has had me sidelined for the last four days. I’m feeling quite a bit better but I still have a ways to go before I get all of the garbage out of my lungs. I’ll give myself another day or two before I try to get back out. Season ends on the 15th here in Missouri so I’ll probably focus on Mark Twain National Forest next week. After that I’ll start hunting Arkansas again. This is the group I had at my house: Three of my six kids, their significant others and their kids. My wife and I are in the middle. I can’t imagine what it would be like to have all six kids and all 15 grandkids in one place at one time.
Glad to hear you’re starting to feel a little better. I know that flu I caught right after Christmas kicked my butt. That’s a great looking family Johnny! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I saw a bunch of deer this afternoon but I’m only looking for a buck. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Rest up , we all went through it with my family. Kids with ear infections. Didn’t get me too bad, but the lung stuff isn’t a joke!
BB fawnand Doe fawnwas it for me. None of the big girls came in and I have no idea where the Bucks are. Be back out tomorrow for a morning and afternoon hunt, then back to VT.
Damn nice crappies Jake!. CLEAN,healthy looking family LC. Ended up making a drive today for a buddy. He had 1 tag left. I pushed a mile of riverbottom to him and he ended up shooting a decent buck. Bout a 115" 4x4. He knew it was a gutt shot so we waited 4 hours. Went to my cabin and took a nap. Tracked it about 400 yards and found it dead. That's it for the year-round for me. Was a fun season.
Glad Greg and his family made it for the holidays since he couldn’t make the hunt this year. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Took my oldest out for his turn during the last youth rifle hunt this year. He has killed three does and really wanted to get his first buck. We set up in the creek bottom 50 yards from where I killed my buck this year back in November. I saw three bucks that night and two while hunting about 100 yards away about three weeks ago. About 15 minutes before dark, we had one unknown deer come by just inside the edge of some really thick cover. Wasn’t much of a look and my son elected to pass on a 50 yard shot. I was impressed with his maturity in decision. It was the right call after the deer did not stop in the one small opening he had into the cover. However, it did give me some intell and where to begin scouting this creek bottom to get closer to the buck bedding for next year. Taking my middle son tomorrow afternoon. Oh yeah, forgot to add the part where we buried the truck in deep snow and had to call for a buddy to come pull us out
Been in since 0630. Surrounded buy deer at 60-80yds since. Must have seen 13-14 Doe and fawns. One mature Doe came into 20yds directly behind me. Tried to get turned but she caught me.
well, yesterday was sit day #21, my last for the season... season ends today and its back to work ...snow stopped around 5am, got a tad over 1 inch.. not much as snow goes, but it made for a nice sit... nothing but squirrels and a male Pileated WP pounding the heck out of a tree several yds away ... sat for almost 5 hrs... zilch .. had fresh tracks on a trail 60 yds east of me walking in, could tell they fed on acorns after the snow stopped .. 'prolly spooked 'em on the .65 mile walk in ... it was a fun season, passed on several bucks, was at full draw 3 times on 2 different nice bucks but just couldnt get the right shot on 'em.. I'd rather pass than screw up a shot ... only the 2nd time Ive not taken a deer in 42 years deer hunting....... Que sera sera ...... time to start chasing bunnies/squirrels, 'Yotes and hit the streams for Steelhead ... I'll evaluate stand locations, keep some/drop some (have around 40 now saved on Huntstand), and start scouting for new locations as time allows ....
