Set up for what is probably my last hunt of 2023, baring any miracles!! Set up in the swamp I have often see deer cross in while I am on the foodplot. Dad is set up on the foodplot, I am down wind of him so if they scent check the plot I will get a shot, if they come in from the other direction dad should. Hung a camera in here Tuesday, had a pile of does and a spike on camera around 4:30 yesterday. I have two scrapes within 10 yards of me so hoping someone comes to check them! Good luck if anyone else is out!! Saddle selfie!! IMG_1707.JPG IMG_1708.JPG

Ended up seeing a nice buck right at last light at about 70 yards, short wheezed at him but he didn’t come in. For some reason my SPYPOINT isn’t sending as images are captured. This is the same buck I saw tonight, came through trailing some does at 11am today IMG_1709.JPG

Well passing the mangy coyote in early season worked. Had one at 30 trot up on my off side from behind me. Bad! Rat til very thin looked like nearly no coat save its head. If I had a gun would have shot it out of mercy I think. Though it is what I'd hoped for to reduce them. Really Foggy and heavier snow fall

I was hoping to have been hunting from this past Thursday thru Monday in our late Archery season. My son visiting from VA kind of changed those plans. I noticed he had a cough on Christmas Day. On Tuesday he was really coughing and started running a fever. Needless to say. Wednesday night the chills and fever hit me. Looks like we all got the Flu, type A. I'm starting to feel a little better and I'm thinking I might have it in me to get out this afternoon. Time will tell. Good luck to all who are out today.

My buddy’s wife killed her first buck over Thanksgiving. I am working on a euro mount for her. Hopefully heading out with one of my boys for the afternoon. Image1703947394.982407.jpg

Wish we would get some snow in Pa, rain/snow mix today. Was gonna go steelhead fishing today but my buddy had something come up with his employees, it’s more fun making the trip and slaying fish with buddy. So I’m going hunting ! Leaving around 12:30, debating on a setup tight to a bedding area I saw a big one get out of earlier in the year, it’s in a smaller strip of woods that leads to the fields and to the oaks. Or I was going to hunt a more of observation stand between two fields and get an idea what the deer been doing. Prop hasn’t been hunted since mid November, should have a pile of deer pushed in from gun season.

What an awesome morning. In same spot i came to draw on the buck a week or so ago. Turkeys sounding off everywhere then had over a dozen deer beneath me this morning. Never got busted so that was cool. One basket 8 that may grow into something nice. Just had 2 yearling bucks and another basket rack move through as well. Glad i drug myself out of bed. I have to double my scouting efforts this off season. This year was so incredibly boring for me for some reason. Only one spot of the 7 or 8 or so spots I've come to know had any kind of good buck sign. Sit after sit of nothing. Not to say that I didn't have fun, but being excited to hunt based on sign and deer sightings make hunting a blast. Dead zones time after time will wear a person down.

Knock on some doors. You can get permission on some killer spots!

That's part of the plan. That and finding remote public land water access.

It’s a numbers game, start on the Less desirable spots you look at. Once you hit a couple doors you’ll build confidence and then be ready for the ones you have really been looking at.

I have a few I've seen wedged in between railroad tracks and filled with water and swampy stuff. I bet no one likes those....but I do. Ha

Many times when I ask the land owners say no one has ever asked me before. I carry copies of write up I made just to cover the bases. I will Pm you it, some owner love it and others say it’s not necessary.
