I’m down. No deer showed up. I may give it one more shot this afternoon before my son and his family show up tomorrow.
Very warm this morning. Still scratched out a few. Sent from my SM-G990U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Running a little bit behind as my youngest got her driver's permit this morning. A good old 1.5 hours in the dmv always makes life fun.
Y'all still seeing deer this late in the season? Every year it seems right after Dec 1st in my area, all the deer disappear for the rest of the year. Cameras have gone silent.
I am up for the afternoon, sitting on the north side of a public land food plot. This is as much scouting for my kids in the youth weekend Jan 6-7 as it is hutning for me. There is a tripod and a climber on trees on the south side. That is a lot of effort to bring in a tripod pod almost 1400 yards from the nearest parking. NW wind and deer can come from any direction. Found a big buck track on the walk in about 300 yards from here. Looked like it was following a doe fawn’s track. Maybe I will get some secondary rut action. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
They are very nocturnal, but sooner or later they will move to food, even during the day. Just keep hunting. Only takes 30 second.
Out again in stand I haven't hunted in 3 years. A narrow saddle just below ridge. I can see anything in upper plot I've been hunting. The bottom of the hill before the lower plots. Just hawk fly below me. Foggy and drizzle. Snow showed me they'd past this stand often, hopefully headed to the plot. Several of the beds I found were below me. Pic doesn't show steepness.
Hhmmm I think I got my terminology wrong saddle or bench?? Flat area just 50 yrds below ridge top that drops steep to next flatter area . Correct me on which please.
Surprisingly slow, thought the moon underfoot phase would have some early movement. It is gusting a lot more than the weather said it would. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Sounds like you’re describing a bench. A saddle is a low area in a ridge or in a finger off a ridge. I’m a huge fan of hunting saddles in ridges. Anyone who has hunted with me can tell you that.
I am enjoying reading the late season posts keep working, every minute you sit you are a minute closer to your next encounter with a deer.
