Congrats tdk. What size buckshot? Never done that. Got the stand moved. The tree it was in was so awesome up until a few years ago. A couple floods have changed up the deer movement due too debris. I'd rather be in the tree it's been in in for the past 10 years but the deer think otherwise now. It was SO peacefull doing the move. Super foggy, dead calm wind and 40* No snow. This time last year it was balls deep and well below zero temps. Cut up firewood, took an hour snooze went to a local bar n had 3 beers. Great day!
decided on a PM sit so I could pull the cam (did that)... got 1/2-3/4" of rain last night, where I wanted to go was flooded so went to another fav. location good for sw breeze.. winds were very light, 1-5mph.. every thing wet/damp/flooded, overcast/ 48deg and very heavy fog was moving in. got set up by 1pm... had a light mist/drizzle all sit .. nothing but birds/squirrels till almost 4pm, sunset was at 4:23 but end of shooting light would come early 'cause of the weather... about 3:50 two nice bucks for late season came in to my back left, 110-120" 160-180lbish, one taller tines, the other bigger body .. I wanted one of 'em... they fed on acorns to my back left till 4:21.. they never came closer than 43 yds, but within my effective range... I continued to range them as they fed around.. the tall tine almost made his mistake at 43 yds, 3 more steps, I was again at full draw, but he turned went SE over a large log and that is where he stayed at about 53 yds 'cept when he waded into a flooded spot at 47 yds to groom and lick his nads, the other never turned to give a good shot angle, he faced me feeding the whole time coming as close as 42yds .. both calm as can be, then they walked off to the SE at 4:21 by then it was to dark to see, so I called it quits a half hour early this pic is the flooded spot where the tall tined stood/groomed for about 5 min. as the darn fog moved in .... the log is 37 yds, the middle of the water 47yds .... you can kinda see the larger log where tall tine fed and walked over it, the bow covers most of it and the shooting lane ... I love this location .. ....
00 buck 3.5 inch 12 gauge Crushes deer. I use it when all my shots are 50 yards or less. Normally it drops them. There are 18 pellets...6 or 7 are deadly. I usually have 10+ hit them. Aim about the same...maybe back just a little and half way up.
what choke you using ? .. cant use buckshot here, slugs yes .. I have used #4 buck on coyote/full choke, 3" 12 ga. .. a buddy of mine would use his 10 ga. and that wallops 'em ..
Congrats @tdk5525 ! Looks like i may not be able to get out until next weekend due to all the family events. Stupid warm here anyway. If i did get out probably be to the duck blind. Im outside and sounds like people are grinding the geese. Specks and Canadians flying all morning.
there was a couple of flocks of White Fronted that came over again while I was tree sitting yesterday, seeing/hearing those more than Canadians on the place .. always in the evening, they get spooked from the lakes when the waterfowl guys go in the early AM and dont come back till almost dark ... all waterfowl hunting stops at noon there ...
Merry Christmas! Thank God for Jesus who was born, lived sinless, and then voluntarily went to the cross to be tortured and nailed for my sins and yours, and then rose from the dead on the third day so that we may have eternal life with God in heaven. Thanks be to God. We are blessed.
