Just got to my son’s basketball game. Heading out for the afternoon once it is over. Hoping this SW wind stays calm. Not alot of good spots for that wind.

I'm up for the evening. In a stupid spot. I'm 40 yards off a major gravel road. Already had 2 hikers go by while setting up. Just a nasty thick strip of woods. Another big hiking trail to my south about 60 yards. Not much to work with. Let's see what happens!

I am up. Same creek bottom I killed. a buck out of last month. About 100 yards west of that spot, closer to suspected bedding. Been set up about 30 minutes ago.

Been raining all day pretty much. Took a tote down to the creek and did some hunting clothes laundry. Sipping some beers and heading to the butcher shop. Gonna fire up the grill and self medicate . Gonna pack up truck and next 2 days are dedicated to slaying a late season Giant. No idea where or how but ill figure that out towards the last part of my 12-pack.:bow:

Had a couple of small bucks come out of the thicket with about 10 minutes of light left. They got to about 50 yards and the wind switched, and they busted out. IMG_1066.JPG Image1702778931.620630.jpg IMG_1068.JPG IMG_1067.JPG

No kills today but a fantastic day. Deer on every drive.
Buddy got drawn on 2 good bucks but just didn't work.
I think I walked about 6 miles today. Fresh snow and no sign of human life...

    Will try again tomorrow.
Fell through the ice on a river mid day. Got a bit cold but temps were mid 30s.
    Kept going till dark.
    So fun!.
For a fat old bastard, I can still go balls to the walls:biggrin:

    Nice looking spot cantex.

sat until the rain pushed me out, got back to the truck just in time to beat the rain, then it came down hard, rained all day .. did finally see 1 doe, to far out however, about 55 yds .... only got 3 hrs of tree time in ... try again next fri/sat. .. this was the beaver damn sit .. beaver dam on the other side of the berm, a tree they are chewing on, and sunset Fri. .. this is where I was at full draw twice on a big 10 Halloween morn. and all those bucks were chasing does thru the AM ...

My foot is on the mend. No more glass pushing up into my foot while climbing sticks. I had been limping to my stand for 2 months. LOL. Why can't I be the lucky guy that kills a late season giant the last month of the season? Operation peninsula pig buck starts tomorrow....

Did the morning hunt today. Had a small 8pt in front of me pretty much off and on all morning. I dont think he knew what he wanted to do or where he wanted to go. Then i see a truck driving down the dam im hunting right next to. It was the 80 something old man that has permission there as well. He was going to check a camera and got stuck. So i figured my hunt was about to be burned anyway and when im 80 something i hope some half young buck would help me out if i got stuck. He was so upset that he “ruined my hunt”. I said you didnt ruin a damn thing i been waiting for an excuse to get out of that tree and warm up! We shot the bull for about an hour after that. He had some great stories. Made for a good morning. Sometimes the best hunts are just spent laughing and B S ing by a tailgate.

I got home from Arkansas yesterday at 11:30. I washed my gear, got a good night’s sleep and now I’m back up in a tree on my home place, actually the same tree I killed the last deer out of so I’ll be surprised if I see anything.

I really should have hunted the other side of the road but this stand was already here and the wind was right for it so here I am.

25 minutes left. Nothing is moving. No squirrels. No deer. Nothing.

The only thing I’ve seen is a single woodpecker.

    That's an awesome story Shocker.
I'll bet that fella would have assisted dragging out a deer if you had one down.

Did 2 big drives today for a buddy. First was a point along a river. It's a bit to big for 1 driver but I tried. He seen about 40 deer but the only one that came close enuff was a decent buck and stopped at 15 yards behind a tree. He just couldn't see vitals.
I could see in the fresh snow alot of running tracks but al9t got around me and doubled back.
About 20 found an ice bridge and crossed the river into Mn. (We were in Nd).

It's rare we don't get a deer killed doing drives but this was one of those times.
I've walked about 9.5 miles this weekend pushing bush. Weather was awesome and felt great getting exercise.
Seen over 100 deer but just no clean shots.(very rare)

    Great time with great friends.
    Round 2 after Christmas.
