Got my bow serviced today ready to ship, I spent some time looking at some crossbows, holy crap if you are going in go all in. Can't wait to sit in the stand during archery season, no apologies, and to those I talked shat about crossbow hunting I am sorry, I was ignorant about those with the desire to hunt that have physical limitations. We are all in this together and keep your stick on the ice.
Somehow I figured you would go that route and jump in the deep end... He'll it's only money right. It not a damn rock!
Well, I’m back at the cabin with no deer. I didn’t have a strong enough signal out there to post. We tracked it for over a quarter mile with a fairly decent blood trail interspersed with great blood here and there. It definitely wasn’t long blood. It was muscle blood but there was a lot of it. In fact, this is last blood where we lost the trail: It looked like she doubled back and Bubba couldn’t figure out what she hadine or where she went. I thought the fletches were clean but they weren’t. They were smeared with fat/meat and a little blood smear. I think I sliced the front leg open and the arrow went through the brisket. I’m trying to decide on whether I I go back in the morning with the dog. I’m definitely open to suggestions. Bubba said he didn’t think the deer was “hurt”, meaning it wasn’t a fatal wound. What would you guys do? Any chance this deer will die? Despite the amount of blood I’m thinking she’ll live. I’ll post some more pics of the blood trail for you to look at (and for TDK).
I should add that the blood trail started off with just a drop here and there. After about 75 yards she started opening up a bit. I think that’s because she was hauling azz for a while and then started walking. Again, I could use some input. Bubba thinks the deer is going to live but he’s willing to take Rip in tomorrow morning if I want to.
Actually the move was absolutely perfect. They came out of the thicket and I gut in front of me. I just botched the shot.
Seems like a lot of blood to not be critical, good luck Chief far from your first rodeo you got this.
LC, just by the pics, I'd say that deer is walking and hit low. Hope I'm wrong but not optimistic for a recovery. But absolutely continue if you can.
I’m positive it’s hit low, but the farther we went on the trail the better the blood got. That last blood pic was at over a quarter of a mile. I guess I didn’t really need any input after all, because after I thought about it for a while I decided that with that much blood for “last blood” it would be positively irresponsible of me not to go back in and give it 100% effort. If we don’t find it in the morning then at least I’ll know I did all I could do.
Late on the catch-up. My 2cents were to go back and look in the morning especially since you said the bleeding was increasing. Good Luck, Johnny!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
We’re going to take the dog in at about 7:30-8:00 in the morning and start him from the beginning. I don’t have high hopes but I feel like I need to try.
