Nothing else has moved. I’m going to get down, go grab something to eat and move to what may or may not be a better doe spot. It’s nice seeing bucks but it doesn’t do me any good right now.
I’m back at the cabin. I got pinned in my tree by the only deer I saw. It came in just before last light and was still about 50 yards away at dark. I knew I wasn’t going to shoot it in dim light because 9 times out of 10 it was a button or a spike. I was hoping it would feed on by but nope, it fed in the same area forever so I packed up as quietly as I could, climbed down and when I got out of my climber I made noise and it took off. I figure it didn’t matter. Since it probably wasn’t a doe I couldn’t shoot it anyway. Maybe tomorrow morning will be better.
Got my butt kicked today again. I think this is 3rd almost all day hunt without seeing a deer on stand. Its ok. Not my first rodeo. Im used to failing. At least im damn good at what i do! . Joking aside though. Its been a tough year. The only real nice buck i could have shot was early October. I said on here i may regret not taking the 35 yd shot but I dont. Even if i dont fill my tag. Its all part of it. I did run into one in the dark on way in. Good use of the thermal mono saw her and let her calm back down a few minutes when she bedded down i tip toed away and she never heard me again. I got down about 10am and just went for a walk today. Slow and quiet. I did spot a couple deer on my walk. Soft bumped one and spotted couple others creeping through bottoms and a button buck taking a nap in the sun. Retrieved some cameras i want to move elsewhere and put new batteries in a couple others. Slow day, nice weather, no deer.
Had a slow afternoon until the last 30 minutes. Saw 10 bucks tonight including a couple great young bucks. Then with 5 minutes left a bigger bodied buck came into the field at 125 yards. I just couldn't tell how big he was because he had his head down feeding. I had the crosshairs of my muzzleloader on him but decided not to shoot. After legal shooting was over I got a better look at him and he looked pretty damn good. Hopefully he comes out a little earlier tomorrow afternoon.
Thanks. Im beginning to lose hope on killing a doe. Had a spike and a fork horn walk by 10 minutes ago. I think the does are hiding from the bucks.
I know a spot where I and a local buddy have seen 30+ does in two hunts within the last two weeks, just out of range. And they are not as smart as those Wattensaw deer.
That deer NEEDED to die. I’m pretty sure I could still kill a doe or two at home, but since I only own 10 acres I don’t want to over-do it there.
Yep sometimes you have to do your own conservation. I don’t know about you but around here people don’t seem to grasp leaving does alone. They just keep shooting more and more and all of the sudden “I ain’t seeing any”.
