Thanks Jim! Just one of those cool old timer bucks. Not a high scorer but who cares. Would be an honor and a blessing to harvest him.
Have only been out a couple of times. Going back to Iowa after Thanksgiving. Lost a couple of hunting spots and there’s not one on our place that I wanna chase, mostly young deer. Yes, hockey is every weekend and evening practices during the week. How you getting along? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Had to get down. Even though stand is bolted, nailed, strapped and chained in, I looked down in these 40 mph gust sustaied 20 and saw popped nails. Creaks turned to mournful groans. Did a slow walk down to lower plots. Hunt neighbor's 20 ga barked. I get over ridge and it's a different world. Total different wind direction and way calmer. They have literally taken 2 acres down to dirt. I barely see green where rye/oats and rape were growing. In Rivers blind checking nieghbors swamp. Eekks every single ash surrounding the blind is dead. Including the one it's anchored to. I have some winter work to do. Temps in 20's wind is roaring up over ridge behind me. Crazy up there solid SW, here NW....hills
When I saw your pic it reminded me of a deer I captured on camera a couple of years ago in ohio. I never saw him in person but what a grand old warrior. Sent from my SM-N975U1 using Tapatalk
I know right?!? When I first saw thati thought those things look photo shopped. But they're not. That's just the way they came off the card. Amazing! Sent from my SM-N975U1 using Tapatalk
Not too bad. Life threw some curve balls at me but still truckin! Deer movement has been slow at least where ive chosen to hunt. Good luck if you do get out again and enjoy the holidays
To explore a new peninsula or go to a place where deer may have been pushed by surrounding gun pressure. Hmmmm.
I know, haha Not sure what I would do. Do you plan to hunt the new peninsula if you find what your looking for? Just mostly scout? Pressured deer are jumpy and tough to set up on. If peninsula is unpressered, I'm leaning towards that. But know how frustrating it can be to put in all the work to get in there and not find what you want. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
I'm leaning toward thick cover with gun hunting areas surrounding. Day 1 hunt this year I saw them moving to a potential bedding area I had overlooked. With this nw wind I believe I can tuck up near the water and be invisible scent wise. Work between 2 bedding areas. Well I think I just talked myself into that...haha
That buck I saw yesterday was the first buck I had seen from stand in that area in maybe 12 hunts over 2 years. Haha. Gave me motivation to hunt today. My later season hunting success has been does only. I need to break the ice with late Nov buck!
