I like windy days in the mountains. If the wind is blowing hard enough it'll keep your scent over their heads a lot of the time.

I've not seen an studies on this topic VS, it just what ive seen personally in over 40 years.
I've hunted coyotes in the wide open plains of western Nd/ Mt for years.
If deer didn't move in high winds, those deer would starve to death.

I’ve never had confidence in high wind situations. Sure, a high wind is better for a deer’s primary defense (sense of smell) than no wind, but a high wind can carry scent over them or past them because the scent cone is so small. Also, all of the wind movement in the woods severely diminishes their secondary defense (sight) and all but negates their sense of hearing which isn’t much better than ours to begin with.

Still, I’ve killed more than one good buck when it was super windy and I’ve read those same studies you referred to.

I guess the best option is to be in a stand with an arrow nocked regardless of what the wind is doing.

What I said above is based solely on hunting deer in forests. I have zero experience hunting deer in a plains environment.

Heading out to walk the rifle around the VT deer woods. I do this once or twice a VT rifle season just to break things up and then I'll be back in a tree with a bow in my hands. Good luck everyone.
