You'll know when it needs mounted, you'll have this one mounted and beg forgiveness or it's not the one. 2nd option is to mount at a later date, hold the antlers and use another cape, one you shot or one a taxidermist has donated.

Congrats VT and INbow on the great kills

Tonight was only my 2nd sit for bow season and probably my last so I was not going to be picky. Gun season starts Wednesday so I will be trying to get my kids on some deer. I have 3 kids with tags.

It was dead calm tonight. No wind. I heard something to my right and just knew it wasn’t a squirrel. Saw the fork horn working towards the creek at about 40 yds. He stopped in the thick stuff so he couldn’t see me. I let out a couple grunts and he heads my way but heading behind me. I could have stopped him at 30 yds but didn’t want to chance it since he would be on high alert. He gets directly behind me. I start turning around in stand and then he starts heading back way he came except he got to 20 yds stopped him in opening and left fly. He turned hard right and arrow hit him back but ended up being 1/4 away pretty good amount. His reaction I knew it was liver. Luckily he bedded down about 50 yds out behind some thick briars. I could see him trying to get back up and thrashing some off and on and then he quit moving about 30 mins after shot. Shot entered just behind last rib on left side and exit was 5th rib from the back. I clipped the stomach and destroyed the liver, and fussing hit back portion of one lung. Didn’t get good look at lung. Thank God he died relatively quick instead of turning out to be an all night event.

    With all that said.

I'll be in the water cooler from here on out. Until I pull my head out of my ass, I am not worthy of this thread.

Im here! Trying to dry some of my stuff out better here in the garage. Going back in after the big one i saw yesterday. The Grateful 8 walked through the plot last night right next to where i bumped the big one. I may let him walk now that i know the big guy is in there but then again im in a 2 buck state!. My buddy and me are going to try to cover a very likely front and back door in the general area i saw this buck. If he kills him i will be just as happy or i wouldnt have told him about it haha. Ok ill be a tiny bit happier if i get him but id rather my buddy get him than neither of us. Good luck everyone! Its been a tough rut so far. Bumper acorns and sick deer is what a lot of people reporting. I can verify the acorn thing. Havent seen sick deer but have seen less bucks than normal this year.

I'm up. Finally in the spot I want. Got beat yesterday to parking lot. But today I beat them. They pulled up as I was heading out. Luckily they were like me and went to another parking lot. I don't like parking in a lot with other hunters. I like to search out empty lots and hunt from there.

I forgot to say in my recap that the shot punched a hole high in both lungs. Those NAP Killzones leave huge holes. I never found the arrow. It did not pass through and embedded in the offside shoulder. Must have pulled out in all those briars. I also forgot my knife in the woods so I'll have to go back today and get it.

That's it from NJ until January. This is the first time I have shot a Buck in Winter(no pic on my phone), Fall and Permit Bow in a year. I'll be looking for a Buck in VT until December 15, when archery closes. Good luck everyone!

I know what you mean about the Sunday hunting in PA but I’ll take whatever they give us in hopes of making it every Sunday in the future.

Heading in. My pack feels like it’s 30 pounds.
    Hope I’m not forgetting anything

The PA Sunday thing is why I hunt NJ. My parents actually live in PA and there is a huge public piece just down the road but no Sunday hunting most of the time and for $135 I can shoot 2 Bucks and unlimited antlerless, for another $56 I can shoot another Buck and 2 Doe in my Zone. I also have the private Farm and about 15 public places within 20 min and double that within 40min in NJ
