I was counting Doe and not seeing any Bucks except the one 3pt, 200yds away going the wrong way. About 425 I see a Doe move across the hill above me about 50yds away, then another. They disappear behind the huge tree I'm in. I hear them coming down the right side of the tree, granted my bow is on the left side of the tree. I watch the first one come even with the tree and then I see the second one coming down the hill as well. Its thick briars and out of no where I see a rack. I reach for the bow and slowly start to turn all the way around on the platform so I can draw if need be. Once I get turned around I have one Doe 10yds in front of me and slightly to my right. The other Doe is at about 20yds and to my left. The Buck is nudging the Doe to my left and looks like hes gonna head back up the hill. I decided that if he gave me a chance I'd shoot him. 2 1/2 yrs old 8pt probably 160lbs on the hoof. All of a sudden he breaks off from the Doe on the left and heads for the Doe to my right, grunting all the way. He pushes her in a tight circle and she walks directly in front of me at 15yds and as she does I see an opening in the briars by a massive tree. The Buck turns to follow her. I draw and put my pin in the opening. The Buck walks right into the opening at 15yds and as his shoulder passes into my pin I squeeze the trigger. Hes slightly quartering away. He mule kicks and lurches foward about 5yds and starts running through the briars. I watch him run 50-60yds and keel over. Good thing I saw him fall cause I couldn't even crawl through the briars to follow the blood trail. Was a fun and memorable hunt. Thanks for all the congrats. My NJ season is over until January.
