I am back at the truck. Rain turned to thunderstorms and hail. Nothing seen. Going home to dry and out prep for tomorrow.
About 215 had a definite shooter at 75 yards cruising......Threw everything at him but wouldn't turn.....Big wide frame good tine length - 5 points on left side and least 4 on the right
In stand. Set up another cam and did some sign scouting a bit ago, I feel confident in this spot. I'm new to hills and ridges so I hope I'm not in a bad spot for wind and thermals. Had a small 4pt run through earlier and he didn't seem to mind.
Oct 28th I moved into one of the spots I picked while scouting in Sept. It was hot so I decided to scout instead of hunt. Happy I did. Well Oct 28 I saw 4 bucks and 3 does..observed their movements. They kept getting downwind of me so this morning I adjusted 50 yards south. I found a huge scrape that looked worked this morning. About 645 I started to get action. Saw two lone does being trailed by some bucks and others cruising. They all got my wind but they were all walking in the wide open. 4 of the 6 bucks eventually moved upwind of me and hit that scrape. I contemplated moving but I had a feeling anything decent would still be an animal that moves in cover. So I stayed put. About 1045 I heard one coming so I got up and before I knew it a good buck is within 30 yards. He hit that scrape then came in head on and quartering toward. I contemplated shooting him several times quartering to at 15 yds and under but I didn't. He hit my wind and took off but I tracked him with my bow and let out a loud yell. He stopped at 15 yds and I drilled him quartering away. He spun and ran 30 yds. I saw his back legs start giving out then I lost sight of him. All quiet. Felt he was dead within 10 seconds of being shot. Found him not 35 yds away. Very happy.
Awesome story and your hard work paid off. Congratulations again Brett! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Set up a new stand on NJ public this afternoon. Went as far in as I could and stumbled across a white oak, red oak and beech nut grove. It's amazing. Good bedding behind me and below me. Ridge to my right. Will be in there way early in the AM. As for the last hour of light, I'm at the farm in jeans and a sweatshirt Sitting in my morning stand which has great wind in my face and two fresh scrapes 30yds away. Good luck everyone.
Great story and great work on your part. You moved in, you scouted the enemy, and finished him! Sent from my SM-N975U1 using Tapatalk
