North Dakota has a tremendous amount of gracious landowner. Jake, wake up early and take a drive. Put a few bucks to bed. Contact landowners and hope for the best. It actually DOES work there.
Couple more does and fawns. No blood spilled. There are a lot of elk at their place. Idk if they effect the deer movement or not. Met the landowner after we hunted. Granted their trailer smelled like cat piss real bad they were super good people. Told us to bowhunt deer whenever we want. They showed us a 7x7 elk that someone got off their place last year that scored easy 320”. Met up with the other farmer who manages 8000 acres tonight at the bar. 10pm-2am drunk discussions about life. Probably be renting his house in Florida at some point. Going on an out of state hunting trip to ND the last 2 years has turned into a lifetime of opportunities for me I feel. Be good to people and they will be good back. New game plan today. Heading to a new area 1 1/2 hours away where our friends had good luck last year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
check some cameras today, 2 of them the straps rotted and the cameras were on the ground. 4 cameras had dead batteries (1 of them was one on the ground). Some of the trails through the timber are looking like freeways, heavily traveled. Picked a 56qt cooler full of apples and got out of there.
Got it a good scout with a buddy on public land. We identified some oak trees loaded with acorns close to bedding that should be good food sources in early October. My oldest won a Hoyt Kobalt at the Full Draw Film tour a month ago. This afternoon we took it to get a peep sight and D-Loop installed. He is pulling it back at 38lbs, so he is legal to bowhunt this year. We are going get it sighted in to some arrows I have built and get him practicing. With some more practice and a little luck, we are going to see if we can him his first deer with a bow this year.
Bear move great on hot days Tom!don't make sense but they do. Got a buck just show up behind my cabin. 3 days worth of pics. Passed him up last year as a 6x4 thinking he was a great looking 3 year old. He's now a 6x5. I really don't think I'll shoot him but will admit it'll be tough holding off. Now just watching all my hard work and $ (foodplots) wilting away in this heat.90* here now and dry.
This turned out to be a disaster. Apple trees didn’t produce apples this year which I was planning on hunting. Didn’t put boots on the ground until I got in here. It’s all buckthorn draws until you get to a thick bottom. I couldn’t find a spot finally just got set up on the ground on the edge of one of these draws. 92 degrees and I am drenched from hiking up and down these hills. Didn’t bring my thermacell cause I thought I would be up top in the wind. Really wish I could have a redo on this hunt. Unfortunate we didn’t have time to actually scout it. Just had a 100” 8pt literally 3yds behind me. Couldn’t get turned around and he caught me moving. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Nice Buck behind the house and one of two different bears. Its bear season here in VT. I'll be in a tree tomorrow at 1600.
Good God I wish I had the options you have living in NY I dream of that buck coming by. Guess your holding out for 170+. I do envy that camp you have.
Ash d, score really don't matter to me. Very seldom do I see a deer (at my cabin) over 150". Just try to get an older buck which is also hard to get here. Thanks for the comment.
