For the first evening in the past 2 weeks, it actually enjoyable out. Sittn on the deck, watching birds, pork roast on the grill, hashbrowns/ sweet peppers browning, drinking beer, listening to classic rock and not sweating my balls off. 71* here now. May even need a blanket tonight?
It was and IS VS. Started raining today at 2 o'clock and forecast says nonstop till Sunday afternoon. A bit over 1" 2 days ago and 2+ more expected. Knew I'd not be able to leave my cabin till at least Monday so stocked up on good food, beer. As long as it's not super windy, the next 2 days will mostly be spent on my deck reading. I aint complaining So you all get busy, tell some stories and help this old man in entertainment. Lol.
Got my shotgun tags Wed. so definitely wasn't a glitch in the system Won't be joining the contest this year and not sure how much bow hunting I'll get in so not sure how active I will be on the thread. I'm going to try the special lake area hunt again this year, application doesn't open until July 1st, but if I get drawn will definitely be be active for a week or two on that. I totally blew it last year. 2 days into Summer, deer season is the last thing on my mind I'll check in periodically though, my days of living on the forum have went by the wayside since the promotion, sometimes feels like a demotion This has become a dinosaur for me, speed reading will be my biggest asset this year
I decided to do some shooting for the first time since our club cookout/bow shoot on 4 March. I shot the V3 first and after working the rust out of my shoulders I tried a 20 - 60 yard walk back. Not too shabby for me, especially with me being so out of practice. I called that good and then I went in and got my Heli-m. It had been about 10 months since I’d shot it and it had a lot of dust on it. I cleaned it up, took a couple of practice shots and then did the same walk-back. I decided to quit while I was happy with my results. I waxed the strings on both bows and hung them back up. I’ll definitely need to do more shooting in the coming months. Oh, and yeah, if you zoom in on the V3 you will see that there is still a bloody arrow in the quiver.
I may not be able to do more than cross bow the Sept doe And the last 2 wks of early bow. I've developed an issue other than arthritis in both my hands. In calcium ( ?) deposits in the palms of both hands. Many lumps from the base of fingers to palm heel along tendons. It's got to the point where lifting any thing takes both hands. Tried drawing the bow and holding the bow during initial draw was tough. Once there the weight was in the crutch of my thumb index. My wrist strap helped a lot in draw hand
Sorry to hear you’re having problems. I would have no problem using a crossbow if I couldn’t shoot my compound bows but I would hate having to lug one around. I used a crossbow for one season and hated it. It was heavy, bulky, unwieldy and I was more accurate with my compound anyway.
I sling mine, really no different than slinging shot gun to me. Thanks I'm going to the Docs to see if anything Can be done about it. At the moment I can still put a flat hand on the table put it's getting more difficult to do. The scary thing is cooking. Anything hot in the kitchen, my cast iron pans may need replacing. Maybe I can get into therapy and ease some of this before season gets too close
Got some shooting reps in today and could tell 3 weeks of rust was thick. Ended up dialing it in. I can't shoot more than about 25 yards here. New place that I'm moving to is 4 acres with a 2 acre front yard, so I'm excited to stretch out some and shoot some distance. I have no good prospects or target deer yet again this year, but damned if I ain't excited for fall to roll around.
Gotta admit, I just don't enjoy shooting my bows like I used too. I have 3 targets set up where I can shoot from my deck anytime but alas..., I think I've "maybe" shot 10 arrows this year Got super blessed with great rains past few days. Crops / foodplots really kicked in. Tickled pick.
Pa opened up to purchase our hunting license / doe permits a different way this year, what a crock of $#!?, i jumped online at 825 am on monday. i was 49783 in the que. nope i closed that out . i did get it 4 hrs later at a local hardware store. 15-30 waiting in line, 10 ppl in front of me. The count down is on 94 days away Sept 30!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was 60k in line as of 9am, ended up getting it at 8pm that evening, the stores were jammed and didn’t have time to wait in line. What a mess that system was! Hopefully they streamline it. I didn’t mind the pink envelopes personally.
Been fighting online draws for Jersey Turkey permits for a few years, beats driving 1 hour to get in a line and then be told system crashed. It will get better as you figure it all out. Glad you both were able to get permits, will they have over the counter sales of left over permits??
