Well I’m about to get down 12 1/2 hours on stand and only 2 spikes seen it could always be worse back at it in the morning Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I like having the cell cams near a couple of my stands. The reality is they see a very small area and can provide an idea of what might have happened in a particular spot but it doesn’t tell the whole story. I don’t get upset if I picked the wrong spot or if I’m working and my cameras are blowing up (Oct 30th). They are just another tool for me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Think those few does and fawns who winded me earlier just came out 70yds upwind of me. No bucks around. Tells me the best days are just ahead. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Little guy chasing a doe on my walk back out to the truck. I know where I need a stand now. Found more rubs a new scrape. Moved camera facing over the scrape.
So close, no sooner than I posted my other post, a nice 10 cleared the creek but took the wrong path. Good news, there’s a good buck around. If I had about 10 min earlier, I would have Ben setup perfect, he walked right by where I wanted to be, but there were doe in the field across the creek and I didn’t want them to spook. I have a thing at 9am, I’ll probably head out around noon-2pm tomorrow. Fingers crossed.
Finally caught up, what a long grueling day. Had a good bowl of chilli but was a hectic day, had to have several meetings with my employees, totally threw the first half of my day for a loop. Got everything done though, just didn't want to leave anything burdensome for the other supervisors. Decided not to hunt tomorrow, not really ready anyway. Watch some football tonight with a few drinks, then will uae tomorrow to get my ass in gear. Change oil in truck, swap my headlights out, get all my gear in order. Need to try to find a vibration on my truck, hoping it's the carrier bearing for the two piece driveshaft, known issue with Tacomas. Looks lile my first hunt will be on private land Saturday. Guy at work stopped me 2 minutes before I was set to leave, told me he took the 9th and 10th off. Told him I had already approved it. He said to call him, those are his 2 favorite days to hunt. He then said he was going to hunt Saturday, told hil to text me I'll hunt. He was worried about the heat, I reminded him it's November, doesn't matter. Said he would text me tomorrow night. He doesn't do all day sits, but said if I wanted to I could. As long as he is hunting I'm good. Hell yeah!
@Happy- dude, that's freakin awesome! I think that's our first November buck. Way to break the ice. I saw 4 does, nothing within range. I hope to be out tomorrow night.
Sometimes you just have to go after them. I’ve done that to watch spots from a distance. And then something walks up on you close and that rush is completely different.
Well you guys did your best, thank you, I screwed it up. Long short a bunch of doe and fawn piled in from lane way that goes past Rivers blind. They are headed my way but direct down wind. I hadn't opened back windows and put a dab of hickory oil on front window curtains. I had also, mistake, put estrus on low hanging black berry leaves 10 yrds infront of blind to draw in a buck. Well those doe weren't having it. A reaction to estrus I've seen over the years. All but one stayed away, but one doe so slowly came in not taking her eyes off the blind. She actually got 5 yard away and could have been shot. She had brought a young wide 8 point with her He was watching her closely and stood lip curling at 4o yrds.. When she got to 5 he moved in head on then right behind the pine tree. She finally spooked and trotted off but not alarmingly . This gave me a chance to stand and struggle a draw. When I settled my point to a good opening I peeked around window frame to the buck looking right at me at 15.. he turned trotted to 25 and turned back broad side. I dropped my point to below his shoulder blade and released. It was in slow motion he literally flipped as he was spinning and the arrow sail cleanly over his rib cage. I didn't hear it hit anything as it entered the 10yr growth of blk /raspberry canes and poison ivy vines. He trotted off down the brush pile fence and jumped to the laneway. This is getting expensive, though I'm Sure I'll find this one it's a rock burm and I never heard it hit rock. I should have just shot the doe. I knew she had him on full alert. Learned alot about movement though.
You had an opportunity to shoot one OND. That's awesome! It doesn't sound like you boogered him up too bad.
BTW I still did my due diligence and went over to where he tore up ground spinning and looked for hair and blood then followed his dug in tracks looking for any blood Zero. I glassed the brush but what a mess I'll look during day light
Congrats Happy.. liver shot? My old buddy had 3 young bucks in front of him tonight within 20 yards. Was fun to watch whilst I was making chicken stew.
